Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Emirates Red Crescent has launched a new initiative to sponsor and support orphans in the country.
The initiative was named ‘Ka Hatain’, meaning ‘like these two fingers’, based on a hadith (a tradition or saying of Prophet Mohammad) in which “The Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘Any custodian of an orphan, and myself, will be together in Paradise like this,’ and then joined his two fingers together to illustrate.’ The initiative which was announced by the director of the Abu Dhabi branch of Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammed Saeed Al Rumaithi, at a press conference, will be carried out in two phases to support 100 orphans or 20 sponsor families. He said it is in line with the teachings of Islam and the UAE’s humanitarian and global mission.
The first phases will be in the last quarter of 2015 with in-kind support like furniture and home appliances, and financial support including discount on purchases and dental treatment.
Workshop on painting and other arts will also be organised to help orphans.
The second phase will be carried out in the first quarter of 2016 where orphans will receive educational support.
Currently, the Emirates Red Crescent sponsors 2225 orphans and people with special needs in the UAE, 562 of whom are in Abu Dhabi alone.
Globally, the agency also sponsors 102,762 orphans in 23 countries.
