Resident Cards a must for admissions in Govt Schools in Oman

Muscat, Oman: Expatriate children aged five years and above must have resident cards, in order to get admissions in government schools. This system was introduced recently.

Confirming to Muscat Daily, a senior official from the ROP said, “A copy of the resident card (with the civil ID number) of the child has to be submitted to the Ministry of Education (MoE) at the time of admission. So, it is mandatory now to get the card issued before applying for government schools.”

The portal of MoE requires the civil ID number to be keyed in at the time of filling the application form. “So parents who plan to admit their children in any government school, must get the cards issued at civil status offices across the country,” he said.

“The father of the child should carry his passport as well as his son’s, showing the visa. The amount to be paid for the card is RO13. The rule does not apply in case of private schools. However, a resident card is a must from the age of 15.”
