SABIS International School - Ruwais

SABIS® opened its school in Ruwais in 2001 under the name of Ruwais Private School in partnership with ADNOC and enrolled students from KG1 through Grade 12. In 2020, the school became a SABIS® private school and was renamed SABIS® International School - Ruwais.

SABIS® International School - Ruwais is a member of the global SABIS® Network, established in 1886 with the opening of its first school. SABIS® International School - Ruwais (SIS-Ruwais), relocated to its new, 60,000 square meters premises in September 2016.

SIS-Ruwais is a non-selective, co-educational, independent, and English-medium day school. It continues to provide students from the ages of 3+ to 18+ (KG1 - Grade 12) with an outstanding education.

The purpose-built school is located in the center of Ruwais Housing Complex, which is approximately 250 km to the west of the capital, Abu Dhabi. The school’s state-of-the-art facilities include spacious classrooms, science and computer laboratories, a modern performance hall, as well as extensive sports facilities with a semi-Olympic size swimming pool, indoor and outdoor basketball/tennis courts, and an Olympic soccer field surrounded by a running track.

The Infants’ Department is an independent unit with its own indoor swimming pool, two shaded, air-conditioned playing areas, and a special KG car track.

The school benefits from many IT features including, but not limited to, e-books for students, a computerized learning and testing center, and smart TVs in most of the classrooms.

Time is seen as a limited resource and one that must be maximized. In delivering instruction to students at all grade levels from first grade through high school, teachers in SABIS® Network schools implement the SABIS® Point System of instruction. This proprietary method is based on the precise identification of measurable learning objectives, called “points,” for every lesson and actively engages students in a community of learners.

In the SABIS® Point System, teachers present one point at a time and then ask the class to demonstrate their understanding of the concept through the completion of a written exercise. Next, moving from teacher-led instruction, the class engages as a community of learners, checking each other’s work in small, manageable groups. One student in each group is selected to coordinate the group based on academic competence in the subject. This student oversees his/her own micro-community of learners, managing questions and offering further explanations (or looking to other group members to do so), when needed. The group leader also works in close coordination with the teacher, asking for support and keeping students on task until everyone in the group has shown mastery. Once the entire class has demonstrated mastery of the point, teacher-led instruction resumes and the learning cycle continues.
