Dubai, UAE: More than 1,700 new teachers have been added to the GEMS Education network for this academic year, the company has said.
It is believed to be one of the largest inductions of new teachers ever in the UAE.
The new members of staff, who are from all over the world, were introduced to the UAE’s culture and values during the GEMS Awareness Day and Teacher and Leader Excellence Conference, before they join up with K-12 schools.
“To realise the UAE’s vision of becoming a knowledge society, it is essential to develop a skilled, talented and career-ready workforce,” said Sunny Varkey, chairman and founder of GEMS Education.
“The GEMS Awareness Day instills passion, vision and pride in our new staff so they can identify with the greater national vision without losing sight of what they have to individually achieve in their respective schools.”
The new teachers got the chance to meet GEMS Education’s senior leadership while also sharing best practice from the company’s education teams.
They took part in a range of workshops and panel discussions presented by 86 teachers from each school in the GEMS network.
“By initiating active discussions and engagement programmes, we strive towards empowering our teachers to represent what we stand for and to provide quality education to pupils of all ages,” said Dino Varkey, managing director for GEMS Education.
“GEMS Education’s commitment to the teaching profession was evident through all aspects of this event while we continue to seek to foster every child’s potential placed in our care. Our new teachers are very much a part of that mission.”
The event was organised in association with the Teacher Learning and Leadership for All (TELLAL) Institute – a licensed teacher training institute in the UAE.
The awareness day is held every September to welcome new teachers into GEMS Education.
