US firms that transact any level of business internationally must be aware of the limitations imposed by the federal government on the export of commercial and defense-related items. This course provides awareness-level training about the regulatory system for exports. It explores the agencies involved in administering and enforcing the regulations, including the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and explains how these agencies define key terminology such as 'exports' and 'foreign persons.' It also describes how to determine whether an item to be exported requires a license.
