The University of Tunis El Manar is a public administrative institution created in 1987 under the name of University of sciences, technologies and medicine of Tunis by Article 97 of Act No.87-83 of 31 December 1987. It took its present name by decree N° 200-2826 of 27 November 2000 regarding the renaming of universities. Since its creation, it has never ceased to embrace new domains to respond to education and research needs, while firmly maintaining its humanist values. UTM provides basic, thorough and ongoing training curricula, organized in part according to the LMD system (French acronym for Bachelor degree, Master degree and PhD).
The University of Tunis El Manar brings together the oldest Tunisian universities including the most diverse areas of training and research ranging from basic and engineering sciences to medical and paramedical sciences, juridical and political sciences, economics and human sciences. Like most Tunisian universities, UTM faces some national challenges generally related to the higher education system in particular the implementation of LMD system, the degrading conditions of student life, the high unemployment rate of University graduates, etc.
