Modules (Sports Marketing Management)

Sports marketing has grown in significance in recent decades. Sometimes controversial, it clearly has a key part to play in the world of sport. From elite athletes to beginner, from casual observer to the most ardent of fans, everyone is affected by or influenced by marketing. This module will explore the use of marketing in sport and through the use of case studies and examples, further understanding of the unique marketing mix that creates brands, demands loyalty, and influences our habits and spending.

Strategy & Change

This module will explore how an organisation moves through key stages in its development, whilst trying to achieve a competitive advantage and delivering innovation. It has been designed to provide you with an understanding of the core business areas of strategy and change.

Managing Organisational Performance

This module brings together elements of performance management which are crucial for organisational effectiveness, drawing upon the disciplines of Human Resource Management, Quality Management and Financial Management. It will enable students to appreciate all three perspectives and apply appropriate techniques to enhance operational performance.

Management Project

In undertaking the Management Project students will be required to display the knowledge, understanding and skills identified with desk-based and action-based research investigating a self-determined hypothesis or research question; they will also need to demonstrate transferable higher order skills, including the capacity to problem solve, analyse, synthesise, research and communicate fluently both verbally and in writing. Research skills will be enhanced through a series of workshops. Throughout this period students will be supported by their Personal Tutor/Project Supervisor through regular tutorials.

Teaching & assessment

A variety of learning and teaching methods are employed throughout the programme, including lectures, seminars, academic tutorials, group work, individual guided learning, project supervision, case studies, role plays, workshops, computer simulations and the use of information technology. Assessments are varied and include a role-play boardroom exercise, case study analysis, management project proposal, written business reports. There will be one 3 hour examination during the course.

Interview Instructions

You will be invited to attend an interview (or Skype interview for international students), where you will be offered information, advice and guidance as to which BA Management programme is best suited to your career goals. Your suitability to the course will be assessed on the basis of your management and professional knowledge and skills.

Entry Criteria

  • You will hold 240 CATs (Credit Accumulation and Transfer) points; 120 of them at Level 4 and 120 at Level 5, acquired in the fields of business, management or public administration.
  • European applicants should hold 60 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System credits.
  • If English is not your first language, you will be required to hold IELTs Level 6 or above (or equivalent).
  • Suitable alternative qualifications in an appropriate field of study may also be considered to access the study programme.
