Diploma Strategic Management & Leadership (CMI)
This strategic course focuses on encouraging and enabling directors and senior managers to develop and improve performance through organisational strategy. The modules cover a range of topics, including: strategic leadership, performance management strategies, a strategic management project, implementing organisational change strategies and strategic human resource planning.
Aims
This programme is designed for managers who have the authority and personal inspiration to translate organisational strategy into effective operational performance. The qualification encourages managers to build on their strategic management and leadership skills, and to focus on the requirements of implementing the organisation’s strategy.
Modules (Strategic Leadership)
This unit outlines the skills you need to demonstrate as a strategic leader and some of the ethical and cultural issues that impact on leadership style. You will evaluate leadership models and behaviours, and suggest links between management and leadership.
Strategic Human Resource Planning
This unit enables you to look at the strategic importance of planning current and future HR requirements. You will analyse the strategic plan and identify staff profiles to meet requirements. You will evaluate the legal requirements and investigate improvements to recruitment and selection, and develop your skills in dealing with grievance and disciplinary issues.
Implementing Organisational Change Strategies
This unit enables you to identify, develop and implement change strategies to meet organisational objectives using a range of management models, tools and techniques. You will develop your problem solving skills and demonstrate the use of analytical tools to measure change within the organisation
Developing Performance Management Strategies – this unit enables you to look at different performance management initiatives linked to the strategic goals of the organisation. You will assess the links between the two and develop your understanding of different tools and techniques you can use to set performance targets. You will gain an understanding of team dynamics and the impact these can have on team performance and develop strategies to overcome conflict.
Conducting a Strategic Management Project
This unit allows you to choose your own strategic management topic. You will investigate a problem at work, research and come up with effective and cost saving recommendations for implementation.
Teaching & assessment
Each unit will include taught theory and seminar activities, and should be completed within the allocated weeks. You will develop your knowledge of being a Strategic Leader, and demonstrate you are able to apply theory to practice. CMI have designed an assessment for each unit using different assessment strategies which look to develop your knowledge and practical skills in Strategic Leadership – work will be internally and externally marked. Tutorials are provided by the Course Tutor to help you with your assessments. You will be required to spend approximately 3-4 hours per week working on the assessment outside of the lesson. Once all five modules have been internally and externally moderated by CMI then you will receive your certificate.
Interview Instructions
You will be invited into the College to attend an interview. This will be one-to-one or can be organised to take place over the telephone at a pre-arranged time. You will be asked to talk about your current role, qualifications and HR experience to assess your suitability to the programme. The interview will take approximately 20 minutes and it is quite informal.
Entry Criteria
This programme is ideal for managers who have the authority and personal inspiration to translate organisational strategy into effective operational performance. Ideally, you will be in a middle to senior management position where you are responsible for making decisions.
