FdA Tourism Management

This contemporary programme is taught by industry specialists with considerable experience in the industry. Employability is an important element of the programme and you will study modules that focus on contemporary issues within the sector, in addition to a diverse range of management and tourism specific modules. You will develop your skills in diverse areas such as IT, communication, time management, team work, research and problem solving and the global tourism industry.

This programme reflects contemporary issues such as governmental strategies, regional policies, managerial approaches, skills shortages, and equality and diversity. On completion of this foundation degree, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to make a positive contribution to the tourism sector. This programme will also prepare you to progress to a (BA) Hons top-up degree in a related subject. The programme aims to:

Teaching & assessment

On commencement of the programme, you will be allocated a personal tutor who will oversee your development and progression throughout the programme, and will provide pastoral support when required. Tutorials are conducted termly and allow you to discuss personal learning and progression. Your progression is recorded within the SCIPS system, facilitating your ownership of targets, tutorials and attendance. In addition, you will receive academic support from your module tutors, services of the HE Academic Support Tutor, and Personal Learning Coach support.

This support will commence in induction and continue throughout the programme when applicable. Lectures and seminars are classroom based, where applicable there will be guest speakers and visits; there may be a cost attached to some visits. A range of assessment methods will be used, including:

Interview Instructions

You will be invited to attend an interview at the College. Please prepare a 500 word personal statement.

Entry Criteria

To gain entry to the programme, a student must satisfy the standard or non-standard entry requirements to the course. You may be considered for the programme on the basis of relevant work experience, and attainment of skills which demonstrate an ability to study at this level. Standard Entry criteria:

• UCAS tariff points: 32
• 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including maths and English)
• Appropriate Functional Skills qualifications
• A minimum of 32 UCAS Credits
• Industrial experience.

If you do not hold these qualifications, the non-standard entry criteria involves completion of a written assessment activity. Given the wide experience of potential applicants to this programme, applications for Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) and Accreditation of Experiential Learning (APEL) are welcomed in accordance with the College FDAP Academic Regulations. However, these must be discussed as part of the admissions process, as once a student is registered to a programme APL/APEL may not be considered for approval.
