Inquiry

Oil spills. The conflict in Syria. Euthanasia. Our right to privacy. The law plays an integral role in managing how each of these issues and countless more across the globe are analysed, evaluated and resolved.

The hallmark of Macquarie's law course is its recognition of the way legal frameworks underpin such global issues. You'll learn about the law in its broader context, looking beyond law as a set of rules and procedures or as a technical qualification and, instead, as something that has the power to shape lives.

Key Features

  • The interdisciplinary approach of this course has earned our graduates a reputation for being well rounded and highly capable legal minds who also have a realistic understanding of the world, its people and the issues that bind them together.
  • You'll learn from academics with practical experience as legal practitioners who are actively engaged in research on contemporary legal issues.
  • You'll have the opportunity to undertake internships and work placements in a range of legal settings in Australia and overseas through our unique law PACE (Professional and Community Engagement) program.
  • If you perform well in the Bachelor of Laws and complete more advanced law units with a focus on independent research, you can graduate with the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at the completion of your final year.
  • As a graduate, you'll join distinguished alumni who include some of Australia's leading judges, managing partners of national law firms, diplomats, members of parliament and senior executives in the private sector.
  • This course can be completed on its own or as part of a double degree. It can also be a pathway into our masters degrees, which will give you the opportunity to complete bachelor and masters degrees in five or six years.

Units

Units are what we call subjects. Most full-time students take four units – each worth a fixed number of credit points – per session.

Entry Requirements

For students from overseas, Macquarie uses an international selection rank to determine the minimum eligibility requirement for each undergraduate course. This rank has been converted into equivalent scores for various recognised international high school qualifications and university entrance examinations, including global qualifications like the International Baccalaureate (IB) and GCE A-Levels.

English Language Requirements

All applicants for undergraduate coursework studies at Macquarie University are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English.

You may satisfy the English language requirements if you have completed:

  • Senior secondary studies equivalent to the NSW HSC
  • One year of Australian or comparable tertiary study in a country of qualification

Alternative entry

At Macquarie, we are all about success. With our International Academic Entry Program, we recognise your individual strengths, interests, and personal circumstances. If you have not achieved the overall score required for your program, but demonstrate particular strength in relevant subjects, we may consider you for alternative entry.
