Sports Science Extended Degree
This extended degree in sports science will give you an understanding of practical skills relating to sport and exercise science in a highly supportive environment. This four-year course includes a foundation year (Year 0), providing an alternative route into higher education if you don't have the traditional qualifications or can't meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate degree. We've been ranked among the top 50 UK universities – and best in central London – for sports science in the The Guardian's 2019 university league tables.
An extended degree is an alternative route into higher education for students that do not have the traditional qualifications to start the sports science degree. It includes a foundation year (Year 0) which is designed to provide the fundamental knowledge base in key disciplines, such as biology and chemistry, which is required throughout the sports science degree course.
This four-year course will introduce you to the sports science field, including but not limited to physiology, anatomy, psychology and coaching. You'll achieve an understanding to the role of therapists and scientists in sport with particular attention to the ways in which these careers may help to increase performance or prevent injury.
London Met is proud to be one of a limited number of institutions that offer this route into Higher Education. The programme is run by experienced staff and is carefully designed to be supportive and motivating and to build confidence and academic ability as well as an understanding of what academic study involves.
This extended degree acts as a bridge between previous education or work experience to ensure that you have the knowledge and academic experience to complete either the full Sport and Exercise Science BSc (Hons) or our Sports Science and Physical Education BSc (Hons) degree programme successfully. Assessment consists of progress tests, online tests, coursework, practical reports and presentations.
In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, you should have:
Other applicants may have Level 3 qualifications such as A level, BTEC Extended Diploma or Access to Higher education qualifications with high UCAS points and grades, but not in the relevant subject areas eg Biology and Chemistry, which are required to study for BSc programmes in the School of Human Sciences. All applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Applicants who require a Tier 4 student visa may need to provide a Secure English Language Test (SELT) such as Academic IELTS. For more information about English qualifications please see our English language requirements.
