Academic English

The objective of the Academic English Program is to equip students with the English language skills necessary for successful college or university level studies. The Program was initially established under the auspices of Southern New Hampshire University and has successfully taught English to over 600 students, many of whom have gone on to attend university both in the UAE and abroad.

The Academic English Program is designed for students–from beginners to advanced–who desire significant improvement in their English capacity in order to attend regular college or professional courses. Students following the required curriculum which includes a progressive number of distinct levels of skill capacity will focus on grammar, conversation, and writing organized around 20 hours per week of intensive classroom preparation. The Program is composed of various topics such as the basic skill sets, career–related vocabulary, and work topics. Students must ultimately complete either the IELTS with a score of 5.0 or more or the TOEFL where they must score a minimum of 500 or more (61 or more for internet based examinations) in order to complete the Program with a satisfactory result.

• The Academic English Program is taught by native English-speaking instructors who possess recognized qualifications.
• Instructors provide one-on-one follow up for students during weekly office hours.
• The Academic English Program is offered during the Fall, Spring & Summer semesters.
• The American College of Dubai provides visa sponsorship, transportation and assistance in obtaining accomodation such as hostel facilities to students
• who are not residents of the UAE.
• All classes are delivered at the American College of Dubai’s central Garhoud campus.
