Advanced Infection Control

This course has been awarded 9 CME hours by the Department of Health (Abu Dhabi)

According to the World Health Organization (WHO:2004), healthcare workers should be equipped with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes for good infection control practices. This includes: regular training programs for essential infection control practices and periodic re-training or orientation of staff.

This one-day course has been developed to provide you with up-to-date information about locally and globally approved infection control practices for healthcare workers.

• Chain of infection
• Breaking the chain of infection
• Waste management
• Bloodborne pathogens
• Decontamination and sterilisation
• Infection control in high risk areas
• Infection control surveillance and reporting

On completion of the course, you should be able to

• Identify the components of the chain of infection
• Explain the correct sequence of donning and removing of personal protective equipment
• Demonstrate competence in the correct hand hygiene technique in a simulated situation
• Describe how to choose appropriate disinfection and/or sterilisation methods for critical, semi-critical and non-critical instruments
