This one-day course has been developed for Doctors, Midwives and Nurses who work with newborn infants and young children. The aim of the course is to motivate healthcare workers to implement Kangaroo care more consistently and effectively.
Course topics include
- Kangaroo Care practices around the world
- Effect of sleep and stress on the developing brain
- Skin-to-skin Care and the premature infant
- Barriers to the successful implementation of Kangaroo Care
On completion of the course, you should be able to
- Describe the importance of implementing Skin-to-skin (Kangaroo) Care practices for term and premature infants
- Identify barriers to the implementation of Skin-to-skin Care and explain how these barriers can be overcome
- Demonstrate how to assist parents of newborn infants, with the use of Kangaroo Wraps, to hold their infant in the correct Skin-to-skin position
