Occupational English Test (OET)
- OET English Test measures an individual English Language Skills from the health care sector,
- OET is used in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Singapore among others to
assess the medical English skills of wide range of international healthcare professionals,
including doctors, nurses and AHPs.
- The OET is regulated by Cambridge English Language Assessment and Box Hill Institute.
Additionally, it is recognized by regulatory healthcare bodies both in the UK and abroad.
- It is recognized as proof of English proficiency for visas, study abroad, education and
employment in healthcare.
- OET has been developed specifically for 12 healthcare professionals: Medicine, Dentistry,
Nursing, Dietetics, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Podiatry,
Radiography, speech pathology and Veterinary science
- OET Listening- It has two parts. In first part, the candidate must listen to a conversation
which will happen between a patient and professional. In second Part, you will hear a lecture
from one person, and you are supposed to answer the question which are in the form of
MCQs
- OET Reading- It has two parts. In the first part, the candidate needs to see 3 to 4 passages,
and later the candidate will be given paragraph summarizing the text with words removed.
In the second part, the candidate will need to read passages related to common healthcare
topics and answer MCQs.
- OET Writing-It is an imitation of certified encounter precise to an occupation. The candidate
has to write a professional correspondence. This can normally take the form of a letter of
referral, but other jobs might contain a letter of release or expert advice.
- OET Speaking- This section is done with the support of an interviewer. The candidate begins
after being provided a summary of their own professional background before going on to the
role-play section. Role-play scenario intended for this section is based on common
communications that happen in a profession

OET Score
- Very High Level of Performance
- High Level of Performance, able to use English adequately for professional needs
- Good Level of Performance, but not acceptable to a range of health and medical councils
- Moderate Level of Performance requires improvement
- Low Level of Performance, re quires considerable improvement International candidates need to score a minimum of B in all 4 papers in order to achieve the standard required by those regulatory bodies that recognize the OET’s validity.
