Latrobe College of Art and Design is an independent, government approved, tertiary school of art and a key provider of specialist courses in visual art, graphic design, and photography, since 1995. Latrobe College is known for its excellence in arts education. We specialise in small class sizes and individual tutorial based learning. Students have the opportunity not only to develop specific skills but to experiment with different art making modes and to refine their creative paths. Courses are a contemporary balance of skills based training with applied creative direction.

The consistent success of students over the past 20 years who are working in the creative industry, regularly exhibiting, working in design firms, creating businesses, winning awards, receiving creative opportunities internationally, and more is a testament to the vitality and relevance of the college.

Students have the choice of working for 1 to 2 years or creating their own flexible full-time and part-time programs. Study Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas in Visual Arts, Graphic Design or Photography or create a focused study in painting, communication design, photography, web design, drawing, installation, sculpture, moving Image, art history & theory, professional artist practice and more.

In our nationally recognised Diploma of Visual Art and Advanced Diploma of Visual Art students develop a range of technical skills and conceptual strategies in visual art whilst developing their own individual direction. Participants discover and learn new methods and are able to focus on work and materials of their own choice. Through the course they will undertake subjects in studio practice, painting methods, sculpture, drawing and mixed media, art history, digital & moving image, photography and exhibition practice. Students have the option of enrolling in an art focused stream or a photography focused stream in visual art.

Students gain exhibition experience within the Latrobe College Gallery. The course enables students to go onto degree level study or to work immediately as a photographer. Students also have the opportunity to participate in accredited study trips to New York, the Venice Biennale or Berlin.

If you’re seeking a study course in graphic design that involves learning industry-applicable skills through hands-on experience, look no further than Latrobe College: we’re the ideal educational institution for you. Our aim is to encourage and support your own individual ideas and interests. We can help you gain industry knowledge, further your professional skills, and teach you to explore various new and creative approaches to graphic design and visual communication across a vast range of both digital and hands-on media. With student access to study assistance and government support through Vet Student Loans, Latrobe College works for its students.

The multimedia classes at Latrobe College of Art and Design really increased my chances of getting into the Masters of Architecture at RMIT University. The projects were fun and looked really good in my folio. Not only this, but the admin and teaching staff were very supportive and helped me to achieve my best results during my time with the college.
