The Open Training and Education Network, OTEN, is the largest provider of distance education and vocational training in Australia. OTEN is part of the award winning TAFE NSW - Western Sydney Institute, national winner of the 2010 Large Training Provider and 2011 Skills for Sustainability at the Australian Training Awards.

We offer world-class distance education services and products to more than 60,000 students in over 200 TAFE NSW courses. These courses give our graduates nationally recognised qualifications through the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). These qualifications are highly valued by industry and the wider community both in Australia and internationally. While OTEN is physically located in the suburb of Strathfield, Sydney, our students are dispersed across Australia, from Broome to Bairnsdale and from Atherton to Albany, as well as internationally in countries such as Canada, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Argentina and Germany.

Being at the forefront of innovation and adaption to technological change, OTEN is continually developing specialised multimedia teaching methods such as podcasts and interactive webinars to engage learners. In conjunction with this, and the exponential growth in digital media, OTEN has embraced social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Tumblr which are now playing a critical role in distance education.

We continually strive to deliver the highest quality service to our students, business partners and the community. The OTEN Customer Service Charter underpins this commitment. Distance education is a specialised field, requiring a highly skilled, professional staff. Our dedicated staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience to effectively deliver this type of education across a range of courses to a diverse community of students. With staff maintaining their industry experience, this ensures that our courses reflect the latest industry trends and developments.

We were very proud to celebrate 100 years of distance education in New South Wales in 2010. To commemorate this very important milestone, an e-book was written to record the many wonderful anecdotes and reflections from past and present staff and students and to demonstrate how our business has transformed along the way. We are excited about the future of distance education in Australia. By embracing the rapid changes in technology, we will continue to play a vital role as leaders in distance education and to offer educational and training opportunities to a diverse range of students.

OTEN - Open Training And Education Network in Sydney has truly transformed my daughter's learning journey; the dedication of the staff and the engaging curriculum have propelled her to new academic heights.

I would give it 0 stars if I could. I have been waiting for about 4 months for my certificate and after a numerous amount of calls on MY behalf still nothing can be done. They like to take your money and that's about it. I'm still waiting for my complain to be answered after I complained over one month ago so they don't really comply to there complaints legislation at all. I would not recommend this government company for education to anyone at all. It would be better to get a good education through open colleges or a private college not these people.

I enrolled for the Diploma of Youth work two years ago. I asked for a refund within 6 months ..Staff are friendly and do their best to help, my main reason for requesting a refund was due to OTEN insisting that all youth work diploma students find their own work placement. Had I been told that they DON'T ASSIST STUDENTS FIND WORK PLACEMENT - I would never have enrolled with this organisation. This was very very difficult and I would caution anyone doing the youth work diploma to contact a TAFE that organizes and helps you to get work placement. Another biggest hurdle was - trying to find a person OTEN approved to sign off my checksheet, whilst I was at work placement. These two reasons are why I gave the OTEN organisation 2 stars out of Five. Save your money please, go to a TAFE that actively helps you to get work placement and are more hands on, with excellent community services qualified personnel and with community services staff that are regularly offering training (it was very difficult trying to do some of the modules due to the teachers not being available when I was free (Saturdays) due to the fact that I run my own business and I am time poor.

I will NEVER use OTEN again, I felt the support through my 3 years of study was below the line - I finished by course late 2017 and now 3 months later have not received any acknowledgement of course, no certificate of achievement. very disappointed. A number of times I have emailed or tried to call the student support team and I am told different stories as to why I haven't received a certificate , one representative informed me I had not completed the course, this made me extremely anxious. absolutely awful experience.

Completed a 'Diploma of Early Childhood Education' through this organization online and enjoyed the challenge - email and phone support was always a click away and understood my needs - even at the worst times. Jo, my assessor, was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - she was a great person to learn from and be guided by in a confronting work placement - Never had a better teacher in my life ?

I did my Certificate 4 and Diploma in Alcohol & Other Drugs (Drug Health) through OTEN. The teachers were always contactable and helpful. The only con is that you have to find your own work placement, OTEN do not help you find this which is something they don't tell you. It can be very hard to find work placement as most places will only take you if you are already qualified or are doing a University degree. So my advice would be, is that in order to do well in the courses, it's best that you have work placement already set up before doing the course. Other than that it's fine.

Very unprofessional. I have been waiting more that 3 months for my course refund....(almost $3.000) I asked a refund because they gave me the wrong information about the course so I couldn't do it. So be careful when you talk to them by the phone, they are vert quickly to sell but then they do not take responsibilities about what they have said to you. Very disappointed.

The worst organisation teaching in Australia. (particularly the horticulture department) whom write assessments and then fail you for not writing what they haven't asked you to complete in the first place! A lot more training providers out there who are under smart and skilled who will happily assist, provide better support and no stuff you around with providing answers and major discrepancies in marks from one person to another. Disgraceful!

OTEN is generally ok, teachers seem to be genuinely motivated to teach and obtain learning objectives. If you want to learn interact with the teachers they will help support staff are of a general poor quality and i do not trust to have any service quality delivery standard suggestion is to attempt to circumnavigate where ever possible support staff.just had an interaction with some IT teaching staff good and bad in all places of work but this person was arrogant discriminatory and ignorant.Unfortunate such a good delivery gets dragged down by incompetence the it section is full of idiots better of going straight to university as opposed to OTEN could not recommend as a good pathways for learning..
