Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), is a multi-campus university, named after great patriotic leader Jenab Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir. It was established in the year 1982 through an Act of the J&K Assembly, with its headquarter at Shalimar, Srinagar. In the year1998-99, the University was renamed as Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-Kashmir) and its territorial jurisdiction redefined to Kashmir and Ladakh regions.

Teaching, research and extension education services related to agriculture and allied sciences directed to food, nutritional and livelihood security. University is committed to develop quality human resource, innovative technologies and their dissemination so as to serve the farming community of the State with dedication and zeal.

Our mandate is to making provisions for imparting education in different branches of study in agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and animal sciences, forestry, fisheries, agricultural engineering, food science, environmental sciences, sericulture and other allied sciences. Furthering the advancement of learning and research in agriculture and other allied sciences, with particular emphasis on temperate and cold arid agriculture. Dissemination of such sciences and technologies to the rural farming community of the State through extension education services; and such other purposes as the University may from time to time determin.

Library System comprises of 01 Central Library, 05 Faculty/College Libraries, 10 Centers/Research Station Libraries, and 08 KVK Libraries. The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir undertakes on priority the development of Library and Information Sources/Services at these 24 Libraries spread across the valley of Kashmir and Division of Ladakh. Efforts have been made to ensure online access to this invaluable information base through the development of the infrastructure and establishment of Campus Area Networks and Internet facility at almost each of these campuses. As of now the Library System has over 79639 accessions of books, periodical back files, theses and CD- Rom data bases. Accessions are being bar coded to automate the Library Services viz. circulation, retrieval, physical verification etc.
