National Institute of Technology Calicut

Set in a picturesque landscape at the foothills of the Western Ghats, National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is located about 22 kilometers north-east of Calicut City. National Institute of Technology Calicut is a Technical Institution of national importance set up by an Act of parliament(Act 29 of 2007) namely, the National Institute of technology Act 2007, which received the assent of the President of India on 5th June,2007. The provision of the Act have come into force with effect from 15th August,2007 as per Notification S.O.1384(E) dated 9th August, 2007 of the MHRD(Dept. of Higher Education),New Delhi. As per the provision of the said Act, this Institution runs on non profitable basis.

Our mission is to develop high quality technical education and personnel with a sound footing on basic engineering principles, technical and managerial skills, innovative research capabilities, and exemplary professional conduct to lead and to use technology for the progress of mankind, adapting themselves to changing technological environment with the highest ethical values as the inner strength.

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is actively involved in diverse areas of research and offers consultancy services to industry. NITC entered into the area of active research through projects from DRDO way back in 1980. The research and consultancy activities are actively taken up by the faculty members of the Institute and have been gaining momentum in the recent past. Currently there is more thrust on inter disciplinary research activities. Sponsored research projects investigated by the faculty and supported by various government and research organizations have helped the Institute in procuring state of the art instruments and equipment necessary for carrying out high quality research. Research projects of academic nature as well as those aimed at solving industrial problems are being pursued.

NIT Calicut Student Guidance Cell (SGC) aims to provide guidance and counselling services to students based on their needs with assured privacy and confidential exchange of communication. SGC also provides academic support in the form of special classes for students. The formation of SGC was based on the feedback from graduated students of the institute who stressed on the need to have a facility to counsel and motivate the students. SGC helps the students to function better in all domains of life - academic, social, personal and psychological.

The motive behind SGC stems from the need to facilitate the process of growth and maintain a positive well being of the students. The counselling services offered by SGC empowers the students to have enhanced ability to solve problems, make decisions as well as make them more efficient in tackling personal problems. In a nut shell, it is aimed at enhancing their ability to utilise the best potential available in them. The SGC avails the help of two trained clinical psychologists who are available in the institute.
