Symbiosis International (Deemed University)

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) is a multi-disciplinary university offering its students and faculty a vibrant learning ecosystem designed around its multi-cultural and innovative ethos. Symbiosis was established in 1971 by Prof. Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, which was a ‘home away from home’ for International students. The Institution is based on the principles of Vedic thought of "World is one family".

Symbiosis is a family of 48 academic institutions, imparting quality education for over 45 years. It is host to over 34,000 Indian and International students on campus. These campuses epitomize the Symbiosis vision, 'Promoting International Understanding through Quality Education' and are a beehive of international students from all across the globe, being privy to Indian culture and hospitality. Many of these campuses are fully residential and have recreational facilities which include swimming pools, amphitheaters & Health Care centres.

Symbiosis today comprises of 46 institutes imparting training in diverse disciplines. It has students who hail from all states of India and more than 85 different countries. Symbiosis is known to be a Multicultural, Multilingual and Multinational institution. An institution, where academic democracy prevails. Where law is the religion and freedom of thought and expression is the spirit. Where equality is not preached but practiced. Where Innovation, Passion and Compassion is nurtured. SIU was established under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, in the year 2002, with the basic principle:

• To provide facilities for education and research of University standard.
• The encouragement of the dissemination, advancement, development and application of knowledge.
• The provision of courses of study or instruction across a range of fields, and the carrying out of research, to meet the needs of the community.
• The provision of teaching and learning that engage with advanced knowledge.

The genesis of the University stems from the Symbiosis Society, a 'Not for Profit' organisation. Its growth reflects the dynamic changes in Indian society. It would not be far-fetched to claim that the history of the University is intertwined with the history of Management education in India. Today, SIU is a clear leader in management education with several of its management institutes ranked amongst the best in the country and its alumni occupying leadership positions across the world.

With changes sweeping across India's higher education environment, SIU has established need based institutes across the 7 faculties of Law, Management, Computer Studies, Health & Biological Sciences, Media, Communication & Design, Humanities & Social Sciences and Engineering.
