We're a modern university with a long and proud history, dating from the opening of two 19th century schools which would later become the foundations for Sheffield Polytechnic. Our campuses have seen two World Wars – Collegiate Crescent was used as a military hospital from 1915–19, and when Collegiate Hall and the main building on Arundel Street were bombed during the Sheffield Blitz (1940), students rallied round to help wherever possible. Our students, of all ages, nationalities and disciplines, make our community enriching and diverse place to live and learn.
Our courses provide them with the skills they need for modern working life and prepare them for careers, not just jobs. Our graduates go on to work all over the world in the public and private sector, many at senior levels, in global organisations.
Our staff has a depth of expertise, knowledge and experience which they use to encourage, guide and support those who learn here. Ground-breaking research in business, engineering, sport and healthcare wouldn't happen without our innovative researchers and our courses come alive through teachers who apply real-world knowledge to everything they do.
We shape our students' futures, preparing them for whatever they choose to do, and create knowledge that provides practical solutions to real world challenges. We will be the world's leading applied university, achieving outstanding outcomes for our students and our city, and showing the world what a university genuinely focused on transforming lives can achieve.
The strategy has three aims. It aims to reset the University’s level of ambition – not simply to be good, but to be globally outstanding at what we seek to do. It aims to articulate a clear direction, enabling us to make the tough choices which big and complex organisations often find difficult. And it aims to be succinct and clear, expressed in compelling ways which can command the engagement of the whole University. It is a strategy for the development of a truly great university – an innovative, imaginative university unafraid to take risks to make a difference.
This is a university physically and educationally at the heart of its city and region. It attracts remarkable students from the locality, the nation and globally. It has exceptional staff. It is well-placed to make a genuinely distinctive contribution to the world – shaping futures through outstanding education and by providing practical solutions to tough problems. Together, we will provide compelling answers to the challenges of the twenty-first century.
People are important here at Sheffield Hallam. We believe that success is not about institutions or equipment but about giving individuals the opportunity and support they need to make a difference.

Sheffield Hallam University is a wonderful university in terms of what they offer for students, as well as the buildings. The teachers are normally nice and helpful and give back feedback on submitted work. However, sometimes the teachers and teaching can be sub-par. But it depends on the teacher. The vast majority of the teachers are highly knowledgeable in their and similar fields. I’d recommend Sheffield Hallam University to someone looking to do a University degree.

Absolutely rubbish, I wouldn’t even call this a University. The students are immature small minded morons and the staff are as good as substitute teachers at a high school.

Unprofessional institution. Rude, vile, unhelpful staff. Would never recommend anyone to choose this university. ..

Good facilities with some great lectures to guide students in achieving their different goals and careers. In addition, the library and campus are quiet and designed to maximise our learning potential. Furthermore the advices and availability of the staff enable students to make the right choice for their future continue personal development and postgraduate courses.

Good university with lots of opportunities. Sadly I will not be attending again. Great facilities and near to beautiful contryside with lots of interesting wildlife and geographical features.

Studying in Sheffield has been a transformative experience; the dedicated faculty genuinely care about student growth, and it’s inspiring to witness my child's remarkable progress.
