We are a strong and welcoming community of students and staff and are committed to the highest standards in teaching across the wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses we offer. In addition, we have a vibrant research culture and environment. We have consulted widely on this plan with students and staff across the institution and we look forward to working with the St Mary's community on its delivery. We build on firm foundations. Established in 1850 with a distinctive Catholic identity, St Mary's is a University with a friendly, inclusive and intellectually rigorous learning community which seeks to empower all our students to lead fulfilling lives both at St Mary's and beyond. As a public University with a faith identity we work hard to strike the right balance between being faithful to our identity and ensuring openness to those who do not share it. We welcome students and staff of all faiths and none. The powerful sense of community that characterises St Mary's is a product of our ethos and the core values that underpin it: inclusiveness, generosity of spirit, respect and excellence.
Our vision for the future is focused on people and place with the aim of creating a positive learning environment centred on our campus community in Strawberry Hill. We want to create the best possible conditions for our students and staff to develop into independent problem solvers and ethical leaders, enthusiastic about knowledge and learning, and able to get things done. Academic rigour is central to all our programmes. We intend to build on those strengths to provide wide-reaching opportunities for students to grow and make a positive impact on the world. we will:
Our Teaching and Learning Development Framework (TLDF) supports the initial and continuing professional development of staff in their teaching or learning support roles, with the aim of enhancing student success. The TLDF is accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and this helps colleagues to adopt a systematic approach to their academic professional development which is aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (UKPSF).

DON'T COME HERE
Staff that have no idea about students needs, they see you as a number and couldn't care less that they've inflicted a massive debt on you through no fault of your own. Their student finance staff will pass you from person to person, no idea how student finance actually works.
They've RUINED my university experience, and it upsets me to know that they may be doing it to other people.
The teachers I had were great, but the finance department are APPALLING. I will continue to spread this word so no one ends up in the same position as me.

I worked at St Mary's for nearly 4 years. It is the friendliest, most inclusive place I have worked. It felt like home. The academic staff are highly committed to their students and the support staff care deeply about what they do. Whether you're looking to be a student or staff member if you want to be part of a community that are supportive and caring then this is the place for you. I'd always highly recommend St Mary's.

I will never forget the years spent here. Sure a close community and some incredible tutors. The sporting setup is top of the range and the coaches are unparalleled. I studied sports science and have gained so much from this for my life path.

Currently studying an ITEC diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Massage... The teachers, Lynda and Amy are lovely; Lynda is very knowledgable and makes the Anatomy module interesting and understandable. Amy is really patient and friendly which makes the massage module lots of fun. The classes are available on a Wednesday or Saturday and regardless of which day you've signed up for, if you can't make one week, you can attend on the alternative day - they're really flexible. There is an abundance of learning resources available and someone to email if you've got any queries.
I'd really recommend both of these modules :)

I'm going into my 2nd year and my experience so far has been amazing. I previously attended a different university and found that the subject wasn't for me. I also thought uni wasn't for me until I attended St Mary's. Simmies are like a whole new family and everyone is so friendly and supportive. Lecturers are lovely and so understanding, especially as I have a 3 year old which can sometimes be quite challenging when juggling childcare and lectures etc. To think I almost got a dead end job and gave up university is crazy. Definitely a 5* university.
