As a university we are immensely proud of our academic achievements but there is a great deal more to us. We are a modern university with a long history and a clear sense of our distinctive mission, highly regarded for our academic performance in areas with genuine relevance and impact on society and the economy, and with a community of talented students and academics who make us the success we are. We place teaching and student support at the heart of the University, and provide a network of Support services to help you with all aspects of your life whilst you're at Abertay. In fact there are many good reasons to choose Abertay.

The University has some of the most innovative and well-designed buildings in the UK and our Bernard King Library and our Student Centre have set the standard for universities across the UK. The facilities available across our campus are excellent and we pride ourselves that we are ranked very highly in the UK for the ratio of PCs to students. But it's not all work and no play: Dundee offers students some outstanding entertainment and social and cultural facilities. Also, sport plays an important part in university life, as our sporting achievements demonstrate.

Abertay is right at the heart of Dundee, combining all the advantages of a close-knit campus with the buzz of city centre life. All of our buildings are within a quarter of a mile of each other, as are shops, bars, clubs, cinemas and theatres, and we’re just a few minutes' walk from the bus and train stations.

The campus itself is an eclectic mixture of everything from the Edwardian Old College to our outstanding and award-winning Bernard King Library. The heart of the University lies in Bell Street, with most teaching and learning facilities, offices, research centres and the Library all within just a few yards of each other. Best of all, our 21st-century Student Centre is also here, and whether you’re going to lectures, meeting with staff, studying in the library, attending tutorials and seminars, or just having a coffee with friends, you’ll always feel like a part of our bustling community.

Abertay isn’t just a great place to be a student – the University is also home to world-leading research teams, whose discoveries are hailed internationally. We are Scotland's leading university for environmental science research, with leading-edge initiatives such as the SIMBIOS unit exploring soil bioinformatics, the Abertay Centre for the Environment promoting ‘green’ business practices, and the Urban Water Technology Centre developing innovative new drainage and pollution-control technology.

Abertay researchers are also studying issues as varied as innovative visualisation of complex datasets, policing and security research including witness analysis, face identity and money laundering, the study of regional and national economic analysis and accountancy as related to the oil and gas industry, food and nutrition science, sports and health science, psychology, computer arts and digital media, and many other topics. Visit the Research pages on this site for more details.

Apart from getting on with the business of teaching, many of the staff are either actively involved in research or work with industry. All of our researchers are involved in teaching and developing courses – giving our students the chance to learn from world leaders every day.

Coming to University marks a major step in your life, and we’re on hand to make sure that the transition is as smooth as possible. The University can offer advice and support on everything from accommodation and managing your finances, to staying healthy and planning your workload. We have a counselling service that can help you work through any problems, and we employ a team of students each year to act as mentors for all newcomers. The Students’ Association also provides help and advice via the elected student executive. No matter what your question, we have someone who can help you answer it.

The friendly and welcoming environment at Abertay is created by our students, who represent a great diversity of backgrounds and cultures. Over 60 nationalities are represented on campus, and our courses attract everyone from local school leavers to overseas research students. Abertay also attracts a very high proportion of mature students.

There are endless opportunities for students and staff to socialise together, helping to develop excellent staff/student working relationships, and contributes to the feeling of community which characterises Abertay.

Founded in 1888, we pride ourselves in offering industry-relevant courses for both today and the future. We were granted University title in 1994 and have around 4,000 students on our Dundee city centre campus, offering a range of programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and research level.

We're also proud of our friendly and informal approach - here you'll play a real part in the direction of our University and the future of our students, as you are key to our success.

We're ranked as a leading Modern University in Scotland in all league tables, and in the last few years we're consistently in the top three.

This University has been a transformative experience for my daughter; the dedicated faculty genuinely care about their students' growth, and her improvement has been remarkable!

My tutors were brilliant but you can see they are tired with the way the university is ran. Departments do not talk to each other, its always someone or another departments fault, nobody wants to do their job. Alan Murphy (Finance) bullies students and technically shouldn't be dealing with vulnerable adults at all.Ive been to Napier university and Abertay unfortunately Abertay was a waste of time, Napier university is light years ahead in technology and materials.

Definitely don't enroll in psychology at either under or postgraduate unless you enjoy bring belittled and bullied. Psych only good if you can see nothing else but psychology and enjoy massaging egos. Great lecturers in the sociology department passionate about what they do and very approachable and always show an interest in each of us in class. I left due to medical issues and enrolled again, happily welcomed back to begin my final year again in Sociology. Loved my final year and my supervisor got me my current lecturing position. The library facilities have improved since I was last enrolled 3 years ago and I can actually get on a computer in the library unlike before! Class sizes are small which I really like because it helps with support as lecturers can spend time with us in tutorials and lectorials. I have enjoyed every minute of my time at Abertay as an undergrad in sociology and hated every minute of my postgrad in psychology. Definitely done my time there and hate how the uni is now business focused instead of student focused as it was before. There's no community atmosphere any more and it's so bad that our union is getting bought by Dundee Uni, even though Abertay keep denying this officially to us.

I'm so excited to start the next part of my life on this campus. The facilities look very well organised and staffed, the students have a good diversity, the atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff are so helpful and pleasant. I'll be doing a Computer Arts course this September and I can't wait to spend the next 4 years here!

A great university for the particular courses they specialise in. If you're not on the courses which they specialise in then your experience may vary. The services otherwise provided by the uni are top notch, and it's location within the city is greatly useful.

Gr8t University and excellent student support services. I studied MSc Energy, Water and Environmental management and loved every bit of it. Field trips, Lab work, developing solutions for companies + lots o independent research work........u name it. I must confess, the library (3rd floor) and the new graduate school are excellent places I recommend for 100% concentration and comfort.

The university is pretty awesome as design. The IT department (and all its ramifications) is by far the best one (this is mostly an IT university, one of the best in the UK). Good services for students, the union and the Library. Great

I met amazing people here, and learned a lot about a lot including myself. I graduated with a computing degree and have to say the opportunities available to me in my four years here were in abundance. Attending Abertay changed my life in so many great ways.
