We aspire to be the most relevant and responsive post-secondary institution in Canada and one of the world’s leading polytechnics. NAIT provides a positive student experience that encompasses students’ mental, emotional and physical well-being and defines success broadly.  We prepare students to succeed in meaningful careers, find employment in their chosen field and have the skills necessary to have an immediate impact.   We provide an exceptional educational experience centered on high-quality practical instruction and a relevant curriculum. We meet students’ needs, provide a safe environment where diversity is supported and have up-to-date technology and facilities.

Our Values are Respect We treat each other with respect, including behaviours of honesty, integrity, transparency, trust and an appreciation for diversity. Collaboration: We work together to advance NAIT and its academic mission in fostering relationships and in building community. Celebration: We come together in fun and enjoyment to recognize accomplishments and successes and to show appreciation. Support; We support people through empowerment, providing a safe and caring workplace and providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. Accountability: We are accountable, individually and collectively, to each other and to NAIT for our actions and for achieving our promises.

Just like business and industry, NAIT is always evolving – in fact, it’s been a work in progress since planning for the campus began in 1959. Today, NAIT is still growing and reinventing itself to meet the needs of students and employers.

The cost to build the NAIT campus in 1962 was over $14.5 million. That’s more than $111 million in 2012 dollars. NAIT’s first class – 29 communication electrician apprentices – started their training before the school opened and construction was complete. Demand for training grew so rapidly that NAIT undertook its first major expansion just one year after opening. In 1964, the Department of Northern Affairs and National Resources gave the president of NAIT’s Student Association our original Ookpik mascot. The ookpik, which means snowy owl in Inuktitut, became a popular symbol of Canada in the 1960s after the federal government adopted a handcrafted ookpik (made an at Inuit cooperative in northern Quebec) as a souvenir at international trade fairs. In 2008, NAIT was the first post-secondary institution in Edmonton to become a full Heart-Safe site thanks to its eight Automatic External Defibrillators. Eight months later one of those defibrillators saved a man’s life. In 2008, NAIT became the only college-level school in the country to have full-time coaching staff.

At Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, my son has flourished academically, receiving top-notch guidance from dedicated staff who truly care about each student's success.

it's a really good college.... only bad thing is trying calling them and you'll never get through. I just finished calling them and the machine said I was "1st in line" so I was happy about that but when I am "1st in line" for 25 minutes is really poor communications on NAIT's part. I never got my problem solved I just hung up, nobody helped me. This also happened to me I called before maybe 4 weeks ago and I was 7th in line then I moved to 5th in line in about an hour to pay for my course and I hung up again, then 3 days later NAIT called me saying I owe them money, it's like they don't care about your questions unless when it comes to money... I am their top priority. I've taken course at NAIT it's a great place but terrible terrible phone services not everybody can drive to NAIT pay for parking just to ask a question.

This is one best kept secret for renting a pool facility. We have rented the NAIT pool for the past 4 years for our son's birthday party. Staff is FANTASTIC and friendly, always a great time for the kids!

A technical school with an emphasis solidly on vocational training. The campus life is almost non-extistant as people are only there to get training to get a job, not to get an education. Having attended two trades programs here and spoken to students and faculty in several departments I'd give NAIT a solid middling rating. Some programs and years are better than others as the school struggles to hire and keep competent intructors and develop course material. The predominant atmosphere is mildly authoritarian and slightly ignorant, but some faculty members are more enlightened than others. Some instructors really know their stuff and others bumble along leaving a wake of stressed students trying to find a way to learn what they need to know. The gym is well equipped, the pool is large and open early, there's a hockey rink and a hockey team, and there are good cafeterias scattered around the place. Lots of perks.

Well, it's a college for one, and I guess that it's also nation-wide renowned, so that's all pretty cool. Ah, who am I kidding, this is one of the best (granted, the only one) colleges i've ever had the pleasure in learning under! It's got a full sized pool, two NAIT owned restaurants (and numerous other fast food places), tons of arcade machines scattered throughout the place; this school ain't lacking anything! Yeah, I'd give this place a solid 10 outta 10..

I really enjoyed my time here at nait, great instructors and an awesome culinary class that offered cheap lunches in the cafeteria. It was Definitely a fun time, looking back.

Amazing school. Instructors are all well trained, thorough, and offer help after hours if needed. Campus is large but easy to navigate. Classes aren't too large and there's plenty of extra stuff to do on campus as well. Good selection of food and ammenities.

AVOID NAIT! SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH INSTRUCTORS AND ADMINISTRATION! Enrolled with or thinking about going to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)? If so, you need to know about the problems currently festering within this institution, especially with the instructors and administration. NAIT instructors lack proper credentials and professionalism, while the administrative staff is unqualified and inattentive to student needs. In fact, the entire administration lacks an organized structure, leading to long wait times, extensive delays, and unmet student concerns. By hiring, cheap, unqualified staff, failing to address gaps in their organizational structure, and delaying or denying refunds to students, NAIT clearly cares more about saving or making money and less about its students. NAIT suffers from several internal weaknesses, including poorly qualified and trained teaching and administrative staff, bureaucratic disorganization, poor ethical practices, and a lack of concern for students with disabilities. Due to all of these issues, I highly recommend that you avoid NAIT when deciding upon your institution of choice.

NAIT hires instructors that lack the proper credentials to teach at the postsecondary level. Many of these instructors are recent foreign immigrants that lack fluency in the language, fail to teach their subject matter properly, violate professional ethics, and lack familiarity with NAIT's disability policies.

Culinary Arts student here. Well worth the experience and amazing instructors with a lot of experiences in the trade. And don't forget you can save a lot of money by purchasing the kit somewhere else or get the equipment individually. Including the clothes can be purchase at Chef's Hat. You'll be told this later on.
