The University of Alabama in Huntsville is one of the nation's premier research universities, offering a challenging hands-on curriculum that ensures our graduates are prepared to become tomorrow's leaders.
UAH is a public Tier 1 national university located in Huntsville, AL, which Southern Living recently named one of the best college towns in the South. Its students hail from almost all 50 U.S. states and more than 80 countries. Included among this year’s record-setting enrollment of over 9,100 was an incoming freshman class with both the highest average ACT score (27.9) and GPA (3.89) in the school’s history. Once they graduate, these students typically go on to earn a higher average starting ($54,000) and mid-career ($98,500) salary than most of their peers across Alabama.
The university’s 505-acre campus, which includes 16 high-tech research centers and labs responsible for close to $97 million in research expenditures, serves the anchor tenant for the second-largest research park in the nation. It also maintains strong partnerships with federal agencies and commercial organizations that include the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the Missile Defense Agency, the DIA Missile and Space Intelligence Center, and the U.S. Army Materiel Command.
UAH is regularly ranked the best return on investment among all schools in Alabama, and has been named by the Brookings Institution as the best university in the state based on the economic outcomes of its graduates. Famous UAH alumni include astronaut Dr. Jan Davis, Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks, HudsonAlpha co-founder Jim Hudson, and Smarter Every Day host Destin Sandlin.
UAH is home to over 9,100 students from across the country – and the world. But while our student body may be diverse, our campus community is nothing short of inclusive! That's because we make campus housing available to all first-year students, which allows strong peer-to-peer friendships to grow from day one.
But being a Charger is about more than just fitting in; it's about standing out and being a leader on campus and in the community. To help, we've created a strong leadership program to enable you to excel outside of the classroom and make a smooth transition from collegian to careerist – skills you can also learn by joining one of UAH's many student-run organizations or holding a position in the Student Government Association. No matter what role you choose, at UAH your student experience is just as valuable as your education.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville is a research-intensive, internationally recognized technological university serving Alabama and beyond. Our mission is to explore, discover, create, and communicate knowledge, while educating individuals in leadership, innovation, critical thinking, and civic responsibility and inspiring a passion for learning. At UAH, we have plenty of ways for you to get involved outside the classroom! These include our 200+ registered student organizations, our active Fraternity and Sorority community, our sports and recreational programs, and our Student Government Association, among many others.
Of course, the best way to connect with your fellow students is by living on campus. Our suite-style residence halls offer a vibrant and inclusive environment that inspires academic achievement, encourages personal development, celebrates diversity, and promotes student leadership and involvement.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville will be a preeminent, comprehensive, technological research-intensive university known for inspiring and instilling the spirit of discovery, the ability to solve complex problems, and a passion for improving the human condition – a university of choice where technology and human understanding converge.
Here at UAH, we know deciding where you want to go to college isn’t easy. We want to make the process as stress-free as possible by giving you the information you need to make the decision. We are a premier national research university offering more than 100 areas of study. At the same time, we have small class sizes and a low student/faculty ratio, so each of our students gets the personalized attention he or she needs to learn.
Located adjacent to the Redstone Arsenal, an economic engine of over $100 billion per year, UAH faculty, staff, and students are able to conduct research side by side with world-class experts from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the U.S. Army, the Missile Defense Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and other important Department of Defense partners. UAH regularly ranks among the Top 20 Universities in research funded by NASA and by the Department of Defense, but UAH also performs cutting-edge research for the National Science Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Energy, and the National Institutes of Health. As the anchor tenant of Cummings Research Park, the second-largest corporate research and technology park in the United States, UAH collaborates with over 285 high-technology companies serving the U.S. Aerospace and Defense sectors, as well as scientists and entrepreneurs at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology.
UAH has come a long way since its modest origins as the University of Alabama Huntsville Center. Today, the university comprises eight colleges that offer nearly 90 areas of study to its 9,100 students. U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked it among the magazine's Tier 1 national universities, while the Carnegie Foundation classifies it as a "very high" research activity institution, one of only 73 in the United States.
It's a culmination of decades of hard work that has resulted in benefits that extend far beyond the UAH campus and well into the community at large. UAH is not just an institution of higher learning, but a partner to the city, its business and industry, and its citizens – just as Dr. von Braun foresaw in his 1961 speech to the Alabama Legislature. "Opportunity goes where the best people go," he said, "and the best people go where good education goes."

As a history major at UAH I am very satisfied with the program that is offered here. The professors in my degree field are very sharp and well versed and most teach at a pace that is favorable for absorbing the information. The campus itself is very clean and is very mature in that most of the wilder college environmental atmosphere is not found here. As a return student with 3 kids this school has been great and I would recommend it to any serious student now or in the future.

I came all the way from Mexico City to Huntsville, Alabama due to family and a scholarship I received from UAH. I did not expect that UAH would be as good as it is, I actually expected to transfer after my first year given my desire to major in journalism. This school changed my mind and I look forward to graduating from UAH.

Regardless of what is said or what you have heard this is a fantastic school. I would suggest it to anyone in any field with a major plus in engineering, nursing, and philosophy.

The group projects drove me nuts sometimes but they truly helped with the real world which is a huge group project. Also I am now in Graduate School and I feel very prepared. My recommendation is to study what you enjoy and the money will follow.

You will get a good start in a basic nursing education. There are still some old professors that are very removed from nursing and should retire. In other words they have not worked in 20 plus years in the field they are teaching and things have changed. I must say there are some excellent professors in the college of nursing to be fair. This is a great program and a great stepping stone into nursing.

UA Huntsville is an excellent school to attend. This is not a party school!! If you want to make good grades then you will have to put in time and effort. If you want to get your answers from your neighbor, this is not the school. Anyone who is serious about their education likes this school. We excel in the sciences, and are proud of it. I love the education I have received and believe I will excel in the professional world. This town is very competitive and this type of education will make you competitive with the rest of them.

I received my undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from UAH in 2003. It has served me well thus far in my career. I am also currently perusing a Masters Degree in Computer Engineering from UAH. As an undergrad, I was involved in several student groups, and found it easy to become involved. If you are looking for a party, this is not the school for you. However, if it is a quality education you want, this is a great school. (and isn't that the main reason we go to college anyway?)

I love the dorms. I've visited many dorms and UAH has the best by far. You get your own room unlike most colleges and you only have to share a bathroom with one other person, so you get a lot of privacy. I haven't started the school work yet but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. UAH seems like a very serious school for serious students. So I'd definitely recommend UAH for anyone looking for a quality education but with a smaller student body. UAH is also great for engineering students, especially since Huntsville is the home of a NASA center. Not many people know about UAH, so it's definitely one of Alabama's hidden secrets.

Excellent educational experience. It would be a mistake not to include UAH in the top ten percent of the major national universities. The school has made numerous contributions in the fields of science and technical management. It time to recognize institutions based upon merit and achievement. I make the challenge to any, serious student who is interested in furthering their education in engineering, science, math, or business to find a better university.
