Located on a beautiful waterfront campus in historic New London, CT it is also home to championship NCAA Division III athletics, Thames at Mitchell College(transition program on the Mitchell College campus for students who are college able, but not college ready), and the Duquès Academic Success Center which includes the renowned Bentsen Learning Center.

Degrees at Mitchell center on core fundamentals with room to explore your individual strengths and interests and how they will uniquely power your education. The difference? Your education will be unique to you and you’ll be able to apply your new skills and knowledge across the curriculum, in on-campus career labs and with internships and professional experiences in our region. Students may choose to major in one Core alone…or add one or two concentrations to the Core to meet your career aspirations as they are revealed during your time at Mitchell.

The Mitchell College Honors Program provides motivated students with opportunities to develop a higher capacity and passion for learning. Honors Students will be an intricate part of our diverse community of learners, working closely with leading members of faculty, staff, and other Honors Students. Other key benefits include the opportunity to earn Honors Student Scholarships, priority enrollment in designated courses, a faculty supervised self-directed learning experience and special recognition for outstanding academic achievement.

Mitchell College’s faculty and staff supports motivated students who seek to embark on an enhanced journey of learning and discovery. Innovative and critical pedagogy, an open and ability based curriculum, a culture that encourages positive risk taking, and ample opportunities to develop leadership skills are all critical in providing our Honors Students with experiences that foster the abilities needed to be our future leaders.

Living on our waterfront campus in New London puts you in the right place to make real connections. Residence halls bring together living communities where people share a special interest, such as an academic drive, an athletic team or a common club. Would you like to have a focus for your floor? Whether it’s community service or quiet study time, leadership building or easy access to tutoring and advising, we’ve created a place for you. Would you like to design your own community? Fill a floor with your friends or team members to create your own community. We will help you do it.

For some students, it just makes sense to commute from home. Campus life is for you, too! You can participate in a campus meal plan, make a home away from home in the commuter lounge in Nathan Hale Hall and be just as involved in activities, service, student government and leadership. The Commuter Student Association provides the Mitchell College commuter student population with a place to meet and socialize with other commuting students.

Health and Wellness—the Health Clinic and Counseling Services—meet student needs and engage students with relevant and empowering programing to help them make informed healthcare decisions and healthier lifestyle choices.

The Office of Integrative Career Development partners with leading Southeastern Connecticut organizations to enhance its academic programs and increase pathways to professional employment for students. By collaborating with dynamic, successful organizations, Mitchell College provides its students with real-world, regionally-relevant experience and prepares its graduates for engaged citizenship in Southeastern Connecticut.

These community-based, hands-on experiences are part of every academic program, are guided by faculty members, and are provided all four academic years at Mitchell College. The Office of Integrative Career Development coordinates these experiences and prepares students to engage fully in each opportunity.

Internships are an invaluable component of career development. According to the New England Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Class of 2015 Student Survey Report, 65% of graduating seniors had some kind of internship or co-op experience. And, according to their Job Outlook 2015 Survey Report, 75% of employers prefer relevant work experience and 60% prefer experience through an internship or co-op. Additionally, Maguire Associates share employer survey results that highlight the importance of internship experience.

At Mitchell College, we go well beyond the internship or co-op experience to create “pathways to employment” that begin in the very first semester and become progressively more complex and engaging every academic year! We work with successful businesses and organizations in Southeastern Connecticut to create these pathways, which include tours, job shadows, professional mentoring, rotational internships, and valuable professional projects to build students’ resumes and expand their professional network.

At Mitchell, both faculty members and Integrative Career Development staff help students connect to the opportunities that are right for them. From résumé writing and interview practice in Sophomore seminar, to participation in the Workforce Recruitment Program, to one-on-one support matching students to our dynamic partner sites, the process is guided, allowing students to explore the professional world confidently.
