Founded as a Catholic college in 1948 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, Stonehill’s holistic approach is guided by the principles of education and faith. Our students grow into global citizens who value knowledge, integrity and compassion as they seek to create a more just society.
Stonehill professors emphasize critical analysis and creative thinking while mentoring students in more than 80 academic programs in the liberal arts, sciences, business and pre-professional fields.
Located between Boston and Providence, Stonehill is a Massachusetts College that provides students with an array of research and internship experiences on campus and nearby metropolitan areas. Stonehill has earned national recognition for our international study and intern abroad programs, which present our students with a world of opportunities.
Stonehill College, a Catholic institution of higher learning founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross, is a community of scholarship and faith, anchored by a belief in the inherent dignity of each person. Through its curriculum of liberal arts and sciences and pre-professional programs, Stonehill College provides an education of the highest caliber that fosters critical thinking, free inquiry and the interchange of ideas.
Stonehill College educates the whole person so that each Stonehill graduate thinks, acts, and leads with courage toward the creation of a more just and compassionate world.
At Stonehill College, we believe in the inherent dignity of each person and are committed to nurturing and valuing a culture where differences are openly shared and affirmed. As mutual respect is a cornerstone of educating the whole person, we aspire to build and maintain an honest, just and compassionate community. Stonehill aims to empower each of its members to challenge and support one another and to embrace our human solidarity, which we understand as essential to inclusivity.
Honoring human difference in its many forms is the responsibility of everyone at the College, both individually and collectively. As such, we will work together to address inequities and contribute to a more just world.
Families turn to Stonehill for our rigorous academics and focus on values, and we are committed to helping families navigate the financial aid process to ensure they make a four-year degree affordable. Financial aid, combined with structured academic programs that allow 79 percent of our students to graduate in four years (double the national average), makes Stonehill competitive in pricing, even against public colleges that can seem less expensive at the outset

Stonehill is committed to helping families navigate the financial aid process to ensure they make a four-year degree affordable. Financial aid, combined with a structured program that allows 79 percent of our students to graduate in four years (nearly double the national average), makes Stonehill competitive in pricing, even against public colleges, which at the outset often seem less expensive.
Our philosophy is simple. We offer an education for the heart and the mind. We inspire students to make meaningful choices, to serve others and to pursue serious academic inquiry during a four-year experience marked by self-discovery and growth.
We pride ourselves on providing high-quality, rigorous education in the Congregation of Holy Cross tradition. Stonehill College's academic program challenges men and women of diverse backgrounds to enter into intellectual, social and moral discovery and to create full, meaningful lives and rewarding careers.
In an atmosphere of personal support and encouragement, Stonehill students have limitless opportunities to explore their passions and to build strong practical skills. Our faculty members, academic advisors and campus mentors help students navigate a variety of disciplines to design a plan that is the right fit for their life goals.
Post-graduate planning begins on day one – from completing the Strong Interest Inventory as a first-year student to implementing a career search or applying to graduate schools during the fourth year. Using a holistic approach to education, we provide foundational tools that help students achieve the goals they have set for themselves.
Internships are integral for preparing students for post-graduate opportunities. You’ll gain valuable experience, build a professional network and learn more about yourself and potential careers. No education is complete without the opportunity to discover the world and our role in a global society. Reaching beyond campus borders, Stonehill students travel to countries near and far in the pursuit of knowledge, humanity and service.
We know there’s more to life and learning than what exists within the walls of our campus. That’s why we encourage our students to seize every opportunity to go out and find knowledge at its source. As a result, nearly 40 percent of Stonehill students study abroad — four times the national average. And other students choose to travel to gain work experience in the international marketplace.
From discovering a new species of bacteria to uncovering the motivations of an enigmatic Russian poet, undergraduate research at Stonehill is broad and varied. You will even find students working closely with faculty on graduate-level research as early as the summer after their first year. Our programs are also distinctive for the range of available opportunities, within and across disciplines, to complete in-depth inquiry in the social sciences, natural sciences and the humanities.
