The mission of Madonna University, a Catholic and Franciscan institution of higher learning, is to instill in its students Christian humanistic values, intellectual inquiry, a respect for diversity, and a commitment to serving others through a liberal arts education, integrated with career preparation and based on the truths and principles recognized within a Catholic tradition.

New students are automatically considered for most merit scholarships upon admission. Scholarships are awarded for full-time study in the fall and winter and are renewable for up to four years.
Several types of students call Madonna University home. Our convenient location and comprehensive academic and student support resources allows students to reach their educational goals. Madonna University provides the opportunity for eligible students to earn college credit while attending high school. Students can enrich their education, jump-start college, save money, explore career and personal interests, and access Madonna University resources.
With over three decades of providing graduate education and more than 30 professional degree and certificate programs, including the Doctor of Nursing Practice, we offer a vibrant array of graduate programs. Madonna University offers a unique values-based, global, and service-oriented perspective that prepares professionals to excel in their roles in public, private, profit, and non-profit organizations.
Students can gain skills they will use for a lifetime when they lead a registered student organization or serve on a University committee. Student Senate gives a voice to student opinions, while developing students as leaders individually and as a community.
Students can look forward to several traditions each academic year! Week of Welcome kicks off the fall semester with a Welcome Party and RSO Fair, where students can meet with registered student organizations they might be interested in joining. To celebrate the University’s Founder’s Day, Spirit Week is held each November and includes the Homecoming Dance, Crusader basketball games, and plenty of blue & gold.
To warm up at the start of the new year, Winter Welcome Back wows with Glow-in-the-Dark Capture the Flag, plenty of hot chocolate, and another opportunity to meet all the student organizations. At the end of each academic year, we wrap things up with Spring into Fun, which includes a Murder Mystery, Crusader baseball and softball games, and the Spring Fling Dance.
Another program that allows students to travel and experience all that Metro Detroit and Michigan have to offer is Madonna Miles. In cooperation with the International Students Office, Madonna Miles takes students on a bus to professional sporting events, museums, and other local attractions.
Students can receive helpful information about prevention programs, stress management, conflict resolution, work/life balance, self-esteem and many other areas from our office.
Grounded in Madonna University’s Franciscan values, the Mosaic Leadership Academy promotes an appreciation of diversity, inclusion and respect for persons of all cultures, races, backgrounds, beliefs and experiences. It represents a diverse group of academically well-prepared undergraduate students from a wide array of majors who look to advance as leaders in a multicultural workforce, engage in service for the common good and prepare for a career in an inclusive global economy.
The Mosaic Leadership Academy affords educational and experiential opportunities for outstanding students from groups who are traditionally underrepresented.
Through the Madonna University Mosaic Leadership Academy, we empower students to excel academically and flourish as members of a social and inclusive workforce. As a result of this program, employers can expect access to well-prepared, diverse and culturally sensitive prospective employees who are ready to serve. We groom our graduates to be sources of enrichment and strength for our workforce.
Students at Madonna incorporate community service with civic learning to gain experiences beyond the classroom, volunteering more than 27,000 hours each year from Detroit to South Carolina to Latin America. Madonna was the first private university in Michigan to be awarded the Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The University has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll since 2006.
In addition to study abroad opportunities, Madonna offers thriving business degree programs in China and Dubai and boasts the first distance learning degree completion program in business leadership in Haiti.
Student achievement is recognized locally and nationally with awards from the American Red Cross, Michigan Campus Compact, the State Dept. of Education, and others. Madonna alumni compose a veritable “who’s who” of authors, business owners, executives, religious leaders, doctors, lawyers, hospital and school administrators, fire chiefs, police chiefs (more than 80), nurses, artists, and teachers.
Madonna University pioneers programs such as sign language studies (first bachelor’s degree in the country) and hospice education (only formal program of its kind in the U.S. at the bachelor’s and master’s level.) Other notable programs include: gerontology, now aging studies (the first and only independent department of gerontology at a Michigan university), broadcast and cinema arts, sport management, emergency management, clinical laboratory science, forensic science, and environmental science.
