Adelphi University is a highly awarded, nationally ranked, powerfully connected doctoral research university offering exceptional liberal arts and sciences programs and professional training with particular strength in its Core Four—Arts and Humanities, STEM and Social Sciences, the Business and Education Professions, and Health and Wellness. Adelphi is dedicated to transforming students’ lives through small classes, hands-on learning and innovative ways to support student success.

Founded in Brooklyn in 1896, Adelphi is Long Island’s oldest private coeducational university. Today Adelphi serves almost 8,000 students at its beautiful main campus in Garden City, New York—just 23 miles from New York City’s cultural and internship opportunities—and at dynamic learning hubs in Manhattan, the Hudson Valley and Suffolk County, and online.More than 100,000 Adelphi graduates have gained the skills to thrive professionally as active, caring citizens, making their mark on the University, their communities and the world.

Our University transforms the lives of all students by creating a distinctive environment of intellectual rigor, research, creativity and deep community engagement across our Core Four areas of focus: Arts and Humanities, STEM and Social Sciences, the Business and Education Professions, and Health and Wellness. We will become a nationally respected leader—a standard bearer—for redefining the practical and personal value of education for students, helping them define their success in the classroom, on campus, in careers and communities, and beyond.

An average 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio, with exceptionally high academic quality, gives every student hands-on learning and close interaction with excellent faculty. Our belief in one-to-one learning is revolutionizing the university experience for thousands of students.

From its inception, Adelphi University has been responsive to student aspirations, societal needs and the changing career landscape. We have adapted our degree programs and continuing education opportunities to better meet the demands of today’s technology-driven, global, and interconnected economy and society. The ability of our graduates to successfully navigate these connections, emerge as leaders, and make contributions in their communities is the hallmark of an Adelphi education.

You may already know that Adelphi professors know their students by name—that’s part of what makes Adelphi unique. What you might not know is that they also sometimes pack a suitcase, grab their passports and travel right alongside them—all over the world. The study abroad program at Adelphi can make a student’s journey here so special. During January Intersession, spring break and over the summer, you’ll find faculty and students heading off to truly enhance the studies they tackle in the classroom in New York. Students earn credits while they trade in classrooms for caves in northern India, huts in Costa Rica, theater seats in London or chemistry labs in Poland.

While students and their professors are traveling to all points of the globe this summer, we are already setting up programs for the upcoming January Intersession. With recent news of a pilot whale dying after ingesting 17 pounds of plastic waste, perhaps our Marine Ecology students will discover ways to change the course of such tragedies while they study in Belize. I am also thrilled to announce Adelphi students will be visiting the fascinating country of Botswana to study culture, health and healing with its people. And through our Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, young entrepreneurs will travel to India to observe management styles and visit start-ups and tech companies in one of the world’s emerging global markets.

Adelphi students, faculty and staff gather together in a variety of ways to discuss and address diversity-related issues on campus. These community-focused initiatives are dedicated to opening dialogues and making positive change.Diversity is an affirmation of the richness of human differences, ideas and beliefs. At Adelphi University we want our students to become citizens who understand and appreciate diversity on an authentic internalized level.

A commitment to strong community connections is in Adelphi’s DNA, earning the University the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s prestigious Community Engagement Classification in 2010, an honor given to only 10 institutions of higher education in New York State. This classification reflects the University’s purposeful efforts to make community engagement a defining feature of Adelphi. Its initiatives in this area epitomize Adelphi’s simultaneous commitment to its core founding values and to the rapidly changing local, national and global communities it serves.

Investments in more than a dozen well-regarded public policy and community services centers—ranging from the 30-year-old Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program to the newer Institute for Parenting and the Long Island Center for Nonprofit Leadership—have earned Adelphi a reputation as an “engaged university.” This engagement extends beyond the region in important ways. Faculty members are engaged in developing and evaluating new programs and service models and, along with students, participate in research to inform social policy, program and service delivery.

As the engaged university, Adelphi encourages student, faculty and staff participation in its extensive community service programs and welcomes the community’s attendance at its cultural, educational, and athletic activities.

The education here is transformative! With incredibly supportive staff and a dynamic curriculum, my child's growth has been remarkable and inspiring.

James Curtis is right. The faculty members at this school are simply not dedicated, especially at the Office of Academic Services and Retention. They do their best to ignore student needs. They always tell you "There's nothing we can do."

Adelphi is an Excellent school; I graduated with a Master Degree in Social Work, as well as two years into a Doctoral program. Adelphi is, as I said "an excellent school," but it is pricey.

Choosing Adelphi University was and still is the best academic decision I've made! I love the school as much as I did my freshman year, if not more now as a sophomore. The campus is honestly just so pretty regardless of what season it is. The scenery is always great to take a picture of. Also, being able to get anywhere on campus within no more than a 10 minute walk is life saving when I'm running late in the morning! I would definitely recommend Adelphi to all my friends.

This is my third year here and I love it now just as much as I did when I first stepped onto campus. The professors here truly care about the future of each of their students and they’re always happy to go that extra mile to help you achieve your goals. I genuinely enjoy every one of my classes and I’m so grateful that I chose to come to Adelphi. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging learning environment.

I'm a commuter and a junior nursing student and I transfered here. For commuters it's great for housing people I hear it's not that good at all. I live 20 min from the school and so far I enjoy it. I work at the school too. For anyone interested in nursing, the program here is great I personally love the professors, clinicals is amazing the students are all willing to work together. Of corse it's challenging nothing is easy but man they reward you in the end. Best decision I've made. Yes overall the school is expensive and you do am have to pay extra for books, and little things for nursing which is a a pain but honestly you go anywhere else it's going to be the same thing so there's no running away from that. Administration are nice, and for me since I do commute it's go to class, work and go home. Im not a big social person I'm more of a get down to work girl so social life I could care less. Everyone minds their buisness, no drama, and there's SO much to do with lots of benefits. Best school I've been to. Can't wait to graduate!

I just transferred to Adelphi and so far my classes seem alright. I think this school would be better for commuters. Housing here is a complete joke. They are very controlling for subpar housing. My last school had way better housing and was not as strict. They apparently have hyper sensitive fire alarms for what reason? I have no idea because these rooms don't look extremely nice to be that paranoid. A person can't even do (blow dry/ straighten) his/her hair in his/her room. He/she would have to go to the communal bathroom for that (with doesn't even guarantee the fire alarm not going off.) It's ridiculous for the cost of this place. When attending a floor meeting, it felt as though you were being told everything you can't do. It feels almost as a mistake for me coming here. I don't know if I was just use to better housing at my last school (which felt as you were more at home), but some of these rules are pathetic. If I was a commuter then maybe this review would be better. Personally, I think living comfortably plays an important part in college life. (Most of this info I did not find out until coming here)

My Douther is a freshman in Adelphi and she loves it!!! She sad it was the best decision she made. She leaves on campus and loves everything about it. I am happy to see my child happy. I just want to say Big Thank You for college administrators and financial aid office staff that made our admission less stressful. I am a very proud mother of Adelphi student!!!

I was actually skeptical of attending/ transferring to Adelphi, I was some what resistant because of how big the school was. My concerns were would they be attentive to any of my concerns when I have them ? I took that chance, and I'm glad I did. Of course it's pricey lol, however the Teachers and Faculty I've encountered have been very supportive . I'm happy to say I'll be a 2017 Graduate at Adelphi with B.A in Social Science. And that's one of my biggest accomplishments this far. It's a great school in my opinion. Nothing comes easy so working hard is a must !
