SUNY Maritime College educates dynamic leaders for the global marine transportation industry, the business of shipping, engineering, energy, facilities management, finance, the armed forces and public service. Students choose from 11 undergraduate majors, including five ABET-accredited engineering programs, and two master's degree programs.
Located 30 minutes from mid-town Manhattan, students participate in 17 varsity athletic teams and more than 40 clubs and organizations, ROTC options and U.S. Coast Guard license programs. The license program prepares students to navigate, power and operate marine vessels.
Across all of the college's programs and activities, the hallmark of a SUNY Maritime education is learning by doing. This distinctive, hands-on approach attracts students who roll up their sleeves to prepare for personal and professional success through their studies, extracurriculars and job preparation.
Maritime College is in the first year of implementing its strategic plan, “Charting a New Course.” The plan emerged over the course of 18 months in consultation with stakeholder groups including alumni, industry executives, faculty, staff and corporate recruiters. The plan contains a robust and dynamic series of goals and actions that will prepare the college, its students and the industries we serve for a rapidly changing world.
First and foremost, Maritime College educates dynamic leaders for the global maritime industry.

Maritime students create and share a rich and lively culture. As important as academics are, building relationships and knowing where to go for help are vital to succeeding in college. The college is home to two distinct student experiences, which come together to create a campus community like no other.
At Maritime, you may choose to be part of the Regiment of Cadets, a disciplined lifestyle program unaffiliated with the military, or part of the civilian program, a traditional student experience. Whichever experience you choose, you will have more than 60 clubs to join, sports to play, spaces to study or hang out, and beautiful spots on campus to explore.
Hands-on experience gives you more in-depth knowledge of your chosen field and an advantage over the competition as your start your career.
Because of that, it is woven into every aspect of a SUNY Maritime College education. As you gain experience and knowledge there, you will also be meeting influential men and women in the business who will help you find your first job and begin to build your professional network.
The Office of Career Services and your faculty will help you find internships. The staff will also help you as you build your resume, write a cover letter, and prepare for interviews.
Outside of the classroom, you may choose to participate in any of the student activities, clubs or sports that Maritime offers. Participate in an existing club or start your own. Student clubs host or help to organize dozens of events every year, from fashion shows to guest speakers, sailing regattas to carnivals. Whatever your interests, you’ll find others to share them with.
