More than one hundred years ago, Meredith College opened with just over 200 women. Today, we’re nationally ranked and our student body has grown to include nearly 2,000 students, including men who are part of our graduate programs. All learn to enhance their strengths, broaden their perspectives, and prepare for lives of impact and distinction. All going strong.
Meredith College, grounded in the liberal arts and committed to professional preparation, educates and inspires students to live with integrity and provide leadership for the needs, opportunities and challenges of society.

Paying for college is often a significant factor in the college search – and selection. That’s why we’re committed to partnering with you and your family to make a Meredith education affordable.
Although you’ll make many significant investments in your lifetime, few will be as important as your education. Recent research confirms it: your college experience matters. Connecting with a professor who becomes a mentor. Engaging in deep learning through an internship or in-depth research. Becoming actively involved on campus. All are critical to shaping your strong future. And all are hallmarks of a Meredith education.
The Undergraduate Research Program at Meredith College offers direction and support for students who are ready to be original, to push at the boundaries of the classroom and the textbook, and to connect with others who share their interests.
The Undergraduate Research Program promotes collaborative projects involving students and faculty from throughout campus. Students in all academic programs are eligible to earn course credit for approved research. Academic advisers and faculty who share a student’s interest can offer further information and guidance.
Internships are an essential part of the Meredith experience. Most of our students complete at least one, and many do more. Some students intern as part of a study abroad experience. And our strong reputation among employers locally and nationally means students have plenty of options when it comes to finding the right internship.
Increasingly, career-related experience is a job requirement, not simply an expectation. Our Office of Career Planning staff as well as our faculty have extensive connections with area employers. And because our students are known for their exceptional communication skills, work ethic, and academic preparation, employers increasingly come to us asking for more of our students – so much so that we often have more internships than we can fill.
Community-Based Learning combines the best of active learning and civic engagement by connecting classroom learning with service projects that benefit the community. Students gain hands-on experience that puts course material into practice, while creating mutually-beneficial relationships with community partners to make a real difference.
Students who participate in community-based learning report strengthened academic performance, increased motivation to engage in their coursework, and heightened awareness of issues impacting the community. In fact, nearly 98 percent of students felt that their community-based learning experience significantly increased their knowledge about issues and concepts presented in the classroom.
Community-based learning is much more than a service project. It’s a way to both deepen your learning and give back to your community. Campus Compact is a national consortium of schools dedicated to community engagement. Meredith is a founding member of the North Carolina affiliate.
At Meredith, getting involved in life outside the classroom is just as important as studying hard. You’ll meet new people, learn new things, and expand your horizons. Play an NCAA Division III sport. Volunteer in the community. Sing, dance, perform in a play, join a club, or immerse yourself in the College’s unique traditions. Big opportunities await. So jump in and grow even stronger.
At Meredith, there are a variety of clubs, activities, leadership programs, and service opportunities for you to explore. More than 100, in fact. Connect with others who share your interests. Join one of the oldest student government associations in the Southeast. Travel to another country to participate in a service project. The possibilities are endless.
