LU’s campus provides student life amenities for schooling and for leisure. More than 2,500 students live on campus, just an hour and a half from Houston, in modern, apartment-style residence halls known as Cardinal Village, which feature private bedrooms and nicely furnished living areas. Lamar University students enjoy cheering on the Cardinals in more than a dozen NCAA Division I men’s and women’s sports.Competing in the Southland Conference, Cardinals teams have a history of winning championships in sports including men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, golf and cross country. The baseball program, led by legendary Coach Jim Gilligan, has produced multiple major leaguers. Lamar University’s strategic planning process is now complete. A committee was formed last summer consisting of sixty members inclusive of faculty from a variety of departments and colleges across campus, staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders. We met as a collective group four times with our final meeting early in the spring semester. Each member of the committee was assigned to one or more task forces. These task forces met numerous times throughout the process and identified opportunities and advanced recommendations to the overall committee. The committee was charged with the development of a comprehensive plan including a new mission statement, which is to serve as the road map for the university for the next 3-5 years.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs partners with faculty and staff to provide the highest quality research administration at all stages of sponsored projects.Review and approval by the Lamar University Institutional Review Board (IRB) is required before starting research involving human subjects. I really enjoyed my time at Lamar University. It is a small school and so it gives you nurturing that bigger ones don't. I'm now a grad student at a major US university and its night and day in the amount of time and help your faculty have to give. At Lamar all the faculty had time to help students.

Lamar University gave me the best engineering education I could afford at the time. This school is not well known in the country, but for me it remains the best investment decision I have ever made.

Lamar University Engineering program is accredited by national ABET body. Its engineering program has ranks high in engineer job placement within many major US engineering companies. Its students consistently score high in the texas state EIT exam. I would recommend it.

I had fun here. The best experiences came from my photography classes. Everyday at work I use what I learned in school, so I know it's not a waste. The more involved I became the more enjoyment I got out of it. Lamar University is very interesting. I think everyone should come here.

After graduation I was able to choose from 2 different schools that wanted to hire me. I love teaching and I think that Lamar University taught me a lot of things that I use in the classroom. I didn't know what to expect from Lamar when I transferred from a bigger school. But I am glad I did because it was what I really wanted. Lamar University doesn't always get the credit it deserves. It's pretty cool.
