The demand from the biotechnology sector in the Middle East for development of knowledge and competencies was a major driving force for establishing the Department of Biotechnology at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus. The main objectives of the department are¦

• To oVer world-class facilities for teaching and research activities.
• To provide hands-on training for students as part of course work and research.
• To strengthen university linkage by enabling the execution of PhD projects from industry and other sponsoring agencies

Equipped with extensive state–of–the–art laboratories and highly qualified faculty, the department provides quality training to students and engages in research activities. Some of the research areas include applied microbiology, environmental biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, biosensor technology, nanotechnology and computational biology.

The Department also has working collaborations with Biotechnology companies, research organizations h Uniformed Services University of Health – Sciences (USUHS), Maryland, USA as part of Practice School, exchange of students, research collaboration and thesis components of the curriculum. The Department has signed a MOU with International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) h PAK Medical and Health Sciences University (PAKMHSU).
