MLRO (Money Laundering Reporting Officer)
A Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) is a critical role in financial institutions and other regulated businesses. The MLRO's primary responsibility is to ensure compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) regulations. This includes overseeing the organization's AML policies, investigating suspicious activities, reporting suspicious transactions to authorities, training staff on AML procedures, and liaising with regulatory bodies.
Policy Development and Oversight:
Develop, implement, and regularly review the organization's AML policies and procedures.
Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR):
Receive and assess internal SARs, make decisions on whether to report suspicions to external authorities (e.g., the National Crime Agency in the UK), and submit SARs when appropriate.
