Our collections:

Captivating and mersmerising, the weapons of the Islamic world was a product of labour intensive techniques involving high skills. The technique of smelting used in the making of sword blades and metallic sheaths was believed to have originated in Damascus (Syria). Wavy or "watered" and sinuous in appeal, the blade was often decorated with inscriptions from The Holy Quran.

The techniques of inlaying reached perfection in the middle of the twelfth century in Persia. Decorative motif's on swords, dagger's, shields, helmets and armour were embellished with 'koftgari' technique, which involves rich inlay of gold, silver and precious stones. The weapons of war were ennobled with artistic refinement of a high order. Also among the enduring legacy of Islamic culture are the Samawars, old world tea maker and Surahis, elegant long neck pitchers, studded with precious stones in a labyrinth of calligraphy and geometric patterns, celebrating an era of refined culture, etiquette and art.

Calligraphy is the art of divine writing inspired from divine thought. Harmonious arrangement of horizontal and vertical, fluid shapes of Arabic alphabets on objects of great beauty is the essence of Calligraphy, as demonstrated in the Taj Mahal and the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

Paintings beautify the dimensions of human efforts, emotions of pain and pleasure, eternal yearnings of love in colored manifestations.

Since faith itself could not be expressed through images, piety found a visual path through paintings. Every picture offers to tell a story. With elegant strokes, thousands of leaves, cypresses, curly wisping clouds, wide eyes and blithe curves of prince and princess; kings and their lieutenants on horses and war elephants; brick walls and never ending wall ornamentation blend harmoniously with the delicately-chinned tens and thousands of faces in an imitation of one another. It did not matter if the face was of the sultan, a child's or warriors'. The focus remained on approaching its exalted beauty that guided the brushes from memory, acquired after years of thought, contemplation and reflection.

When the eyes get fatigued from reading love crazed tales of Laila-Majnu or the heroics and anguishes of Alexander the Great, the miniature illustrations serves as music to the sight and silences the thought which our intellect and imagination fails to conjure in a text.

The countless yarns of a fabric chronicle a civilisation's epic journey in its customs, rituals and social mores. In vibrant hues and shapes textiles have served mankind as clothing, home furnishings and portable architecture (tents). Ever so often it is seen as an index of religious vitality. Whereas the turban and the skull cap is a head covering of the Islamic world during prayer, a veil is a manifestation of virtue for a woman.
