Our school educates deaf and hearing impaired students who need special care , we aim and work for when they graduate to build an integration with society , to improve their knowledge which will be necessay at find appropriate job according their vocation, to improve their vocational skills and communication skills. At the same time, we prepare students to university life. Our purpose is to make happy and productive students despite the obstacles they face with because of their disability.
The building of our school had been given at 1992 to build as a school of physical disabled students. The school had been built at 2000. Unfortunately because of the lack of physical disabled students it has been changed to be Deaf Vocational School in 2001 at Nilüfer , Bursa province Turkey. The first part of the building had been given to Duyum İşitme Engelliler İlköğretim Okulu, the second part of the building had been given to Mitat Enç İlköğretim ve İş Okulu, and the second floor, third part of the school had been given to deaf students for vocational education. Later the 4th part of the building had been given to RAM.
It is commonly observed that the deaf and mute person are being better concentrated at attention intensive job tasks for that reason they are also very talented as vocational workers in the production line. Moreover being mute and hearing impaired also causes the high concentration at all details and to be aware of their gestures, body strengths, mimics. This is proven by the high success of our students at sports and theatre like pantomime. All they are like natural soft skills they had developed, which will be seen as the positive effect resulted of their disabilities.
It has been observed that the deaf people are well as a vocational workers by being purely concentrated to their attention required duty tasks because of their disability.The lack of hearing and speaking abilities causes the strenghtening of their visual and physical abilities.To give some example; their talent on sports which can be checked from our history of prizes won, their hand craft talents on specific vocational tasks. Moreover we can observe their talents on drama, because of using sign language their natural talent using gestures and mimics are overdeveloped.
The equal opportunities on education is a must for democratic societies.In another words this can not be acchieved excluding disabled students whoreqires special education. Turkish Education system is based on non- disabled students and this is a real barrier for students with special needs. Because the education system do not take into consideration of lack of abilities of many disabled students, most of the programmes being inaccesible for them. This results in lack of education materials designed for their special needs according to their disability.
On the other hand there is a lack of information which causes unawareness of disabilities within society. The employers are also unaware of the disability and mainly avoid employing a disabled person even they must with the obligation of laws up to a ratio. Having no information about the disabilities makes fearful about lack productivity and security in their work space. However this is being changed when our school is being seen on media as with the students success and projects done to improve their life quality.
From the beginning of our school ,starting the date of education at the competitions made between Deaf and Hearing Impaired Special Education Vocational Training High Schools all over country our school has had many awards . The students has had many awards mostly at "Basketball", "Football", "Athletics", "Table Tennis".
LDV : The mobility visits had been fulfilled at 2011 to Germany within the EU - LDV project named as The “Importance of Vocational Education for Preparing of Deaf and Hearing Impaired Students to Working Life “ and it helped to improve the knowledge and point of view of our students very much.
LOCAL PROJECTS : The Project covered at 2012 which had been funded %90 by BEBKA. The Project was about CAD design for technical drawing so a full equiped labrotary had been established. Later on all the students at 12th grades from 3 departments (except the Clothing Manufacturing Technologies students which do not have that lessons in their curriculum) have been educated at the same time with their own teachers . The visual materials and equipments which are absolutely very important for deaf education system had been improved by the source of Project. Mainly our deaf students have improved their drawing skills for design which can be used in their own departments individually.
Both projects gave an opportunity to promote our school while they improved the quality of education. After those projects there had been meetings with employers, and other organizations to raise awareness which will help our students´ quality of education and opportunities for employment.
