4 Essentials about the UAE Visa

How to get Dubai visa? Whether you’re going for a short vacation or a 3-month stay in Dubai, you need to familiarize yourself with Dubai rules and regulations when obtaining a visa. Here are some things you need to take note of.

1. Visa Upon Arrival
Visa upon arrival is available for certain countries which includes all European Union Member State. Also those people who hold visas in their passports or entry stamps from other countries which visa is valid for 30 days and is renewable once.

These countries are:
Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Romania, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, United States of America, United Kingdom with (Right of Abode in UK), the Vatican, Italy, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand Hungary, Iceland, , San Marino, Singapore, Australia, Austria, Andorra, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, and Luxembourg.

2. GCC Nationals
UAE Visa requirements differ from one nationality to another. Before you travel, it is advised that you check the regulations. National citizens of GCC countries which include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, don’t need visa to enter the UAE. However, escorts or helpers of GCC Nationals will be issued visas renewable for 60 days.

The sponsor needs to present an original passport and valid residency visa for a valid entry to the UAE.

Moreover, GCC Residents who are not GCC nationals but hold the following occupation:

  • Company managers
  • Doctors
  • Engineers
  • Employees working in the public sector

Along with their families are eligible for a non-renewable 30-day visa upon arrival at all UAE airports or other points of entry. The sponsored person is required to present a valid residency visa and proof of employment. As for the rest of nationalities, visa should be applied before the visitor can visit the UAE. Embassies, local sponsors, or hotels can assist with visa application.

3. Tourist Visa
There are types of visas for tourists. One is tourist visa (30 days validity), service visa (14 days validity) and a visit visa (30 days validity). A visit visa can be extended for another 30 days. Tourist company or hotel can do this for you. You just have to present a copy of your passport with reason of visit and arrival date in UAE. The hotel/tourist company will fax a copy of visa when ready.

In some cases, transit visa valid for 96 hours is available in nominal fee only in certain airlines.

Organizations and individuals already based in the UAE can apply on your behalf for a Visit Visa. Work Visa can be obtained if you’re going to work in the UAE, which will be given to you by the employer.

4. Types of Visas
What are the different types of visa in the UAE?

a. Visit Visa
Here are some of the pre-requisites if you want to apply for UAE visit visa:
If you wish to stay in the UAE for more than 14 days or if you’re coming on family or business trips, you can apply for a visit visa. There are two types –short term (30 days) and long term (90 days). Both are not renewable. There’s a deposit which will be reimbursed when the visit visa holder leaves the country.

The long term visit visa issued to individuals has 60 day validity period from issue date. The short term visa on the other hand, is valid for 60 days from issue date.

Documents required (Individuals):

  • Clear passport copy of the sponsored person
  • Travel insurance
  • Documents required (Companies)
  • Clear passport copy of the sponsor
  • Copy of the establishment card
  • Travel insurance
  • Clear passport copy of the sponsor
  • A copy of the salary certificate or employment contract of the sponsor (resident) should be attached
  • Proof of family relationship (kinship)

b. Tourist Visa
A 30 day tourist visa is not renewable. Fine will be paid for every day which exceeds more than 30 days. Hotel and tour operator sponsorship is required for tourist visa. Individuals originating from these countries can apply for this visa type:
Turkey, Ukraine, Albania, Russia, St Kitts-Navis, St Lucia, Mexico, Cuba, Bermuda, Belize, Guyana, French Guiana, Martinique, Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent, Jamaica, Palao, other non-defined American nationalities, Thailand, South Africa, Singapore, China.

What are the documents required? Clear passport copy of the sponsor and travel insurance.

c. Multiple Entry Visa
Cruise ship passengers usually get multiple entry UAE visa because of their schedule. They can enter the country more than once in a single trip. These types of visas are also issued to business visitors employed under multinational companies.

The validity of multiple entry visa is for 6 months from date of issue. Each stay lasts for 30 days, also not renewable. For an individual to get multiple entry visa, he/she must first enter the UAE on Visit Visa.

There are special cases such as German citizens who can apply to the UAE embassy in Germany for a one- or two-year multiple-entry visa. The duration cannot exceed 3 months in a year.

Moreover, US citizens may apply to the UAE embassy in United States for a one to ten-year multiple-entry visa, with stay not exceeding 6 months per year.

d. Transit Visa
If you’re a transit passenger with stopover at Dubai International Airport for a minimum of 8 hours are eligible for 96-hour transit visa. Just present your onward ticket, passport and other travel documents that is valid for three months.

However, citizens of the following countries (Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Niger, and Yemen) are not eligible for the 96-hour visa on arrival.
