Can you learn a new language in a month?

Learning a new language is a challenge for everyone. But what if I told you that it’s possible to learn a new language in just a month?

First, commit to your goals. You need to set up a plan of how many hours a day you will spend learning the new language. Commit to this plan, tell your friends about it and put something at stake if you fail.

Once your plan is in motion, don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Your goal must be to communicate and to make yourself understood! If you’re obsessed with the perfect grammar and accent, you will never have the courage to speak with natives.

Speaking of grammar, you shouldn’t focus too much on it. During intensive courses, all bets should be on common words that you can use in several contexts. There are a few essential verbs in each language, a handful of prepositions and pronouns that you should definitely learn. Other than that, the numbers, weather vocabulary and words to get around the city always come in handy.

While you’re trying to learn vocabulary, make an effort to use the new words as much as you can in your daily life. Change your phone’s default language, prepare memory cards and try to translate things as much as you can.

At the same time, you should try to listen to music in the language you are trying to learn, watch movies and news reports. You can also record your voice and send it to natives to have feedback on your accent. Don’t be afraid to ask for help to friends who already speak it, teachers, tutors or natives.

While talking to natives, remember that you committed to your plan and to not being afraid of making mistakes!
