Management of the Shocked Patient

Course summary:

Course description: This course is designed for nurses interested in recognizing and managing the patient that is suffering a shock

Targeted audience: Any staff nurse working in a clinical setting

Learning objectives:

• Learn about the different types of Shock
• Assessment of the patient suffering a shock
• Nursing interventions according to findings
• Preparation of the patient for further interventions
• Communicate efficiently to other health care professionals and the patient
• Handing over the patient in a standardized manner (SBAR)

Program:

• Review of concepts from literature
• Get to know the human patient simulator and equipment
• Demonstration session
• Simulation sessions that will include the following: hypovolemic shock, septic shock, cardiogenic shock, distributive, combined
• Debriefing
