At Sri Emas International School, we provide a rigorous, academic program through which effective educators lead students to become better thinkers and independent lifelong learners.

We're committed to providing rich learning experiences for our students. At Sri Emas, students benefit from the full range of learning methods seen on Edgar Dale's Cone of Learning, with emphasis especially on direct, active learning. We're practitioners of the ACE EdVenture Approach, where efficient and engaging learning strategies such as simulations, games and presentations are essential in our education system. By transforming the way education is delivered and incorporating how most students learn best, we're immediately able to "shift the bell curve" and move students from Average to High Performance.

The ACE EdVenture Approach used at Sri Emas has been pushing the boundaries of education for the past 22 years, impacted the lives of 15,000 students to date, and is still going strong. Conceived and developed by our founders, Anne and Melinda, it stemmed from a simple observation: 12 years in the conventional education system, yet students were unprepared for university and the workplace [it's still happening].

As educators, we continue to educate ourselves on where the future is heading and tweak our delivery to nurture future-proof skills such as self-discipline, adaptability, initiative, cognitive flexibility, and decision making. The same four walls for 8 hours a day can be stifling. We like getting creative with our learning: sitting, standing, in the corridors, on the floors, in the labs, out at the water park! Every space is a learning space and every surface is a canvas for learning! This is especially great for visual and kinaesthetic learners. Expecting perfection of them is unrealistic. Instead, we strive for progress. We stand by our students through their journey with us, giving them feedback and the opportunity to upgrade their work. Whether it's an improvement from a D to C, or A to A*, every win is worth celebrating with our students.

Most of our teachers are young, and unapologetically so! Being young and passionate about education, our teachers can connect and relate to our students as their role models. It's not unusual to see teachers and students hanging out together during breaks. The boundaries are still clear of course, and this mutual respect enhances learning in the classroom as teachers are in a better position to guide and coach students to progress.

When we teach, we like to give our students the big-picture view of what they are learning. For example, a teacher takes his class on a jog through the corridors, telling them to pay attention to the sensations they feel as they slow down or take the corners. This leads to discussions of the concepts of Momentum and Inertia in Physics, how it applies in their lives and beyond. We acknowledge that students have the innate curiosity to learn, we just have to harness that and make what they're learning relevant.

We are constantly thinking up new ways to get students excited and engaged about topics. A lot of these ideas are implemented in class coursework. Coursework has been a staple of our approach since the beginning. Sell your castles for History, choreograph Hip-Hop for Physics, it goes on! The coursework we create challenges our students' understanding and instils cross-subject and cross-skilled learning. To walk our talk, our own team of teachers created the world's first Chemistry role-playing game for mobile devices, ChemCaper, which we use in our classrooms to bring new flavour into learning Chemistry!

Writing this review 4 years too late, but the Sri Emas that I left in 2012 was one brimming with hope, vibrance and optimism. The teachers encouraged us students not to think outside the box, but to think as if there was no box. Filled with youth and enthusiasm, they educated us to excel not only in English, Physics and Economics, but also the Performing Arts and Financial Management. They gave us a platform to unlock our creative potential, through carefully constructed coursework which is a reflection of the quirky, imaginative nature of our curiculum. On certain days, the students were allowed to go to classes wearing clothes of our choice, allowing us to showcase our individuality, as uniforms were only mandatory on alternate days. Fitness training, ball sports and skill enhancement lessons in drama, vocal training and HipHop were also built into the timetable, balancing time spent in the class with time spent in the court or in character. The community was energetic, friendly and welcoming, making some of us liken the school to a home away from home. All this made Sri Emas the unique, character-building environment that I know and love. I know not how much the school has evolved over the past few years, but what I do know is that Sri Emas changed the course of my life for the better, and I hope it continues to do so for the many students to come.
