Gyeongsang National University

Gyeongsang National University, established in 1948, is fostering creative talent that combines reverence, knowledge, and scholarship based on the principle of "pioneering spirit" as a national university that represents Gyeongnam.

The motto of Gyeongsang National University(GNU) is Pioneer, and it states that the eyes of pioneers see far beyond the present to the future. The history of the university begun as Jinju Agricultural College founded in Jinju in 1948, then, accredited as national college in 1968 and in 1972, renamed as Gyeongsang National College. In 1980, the college was accredited as a national university by the ministry of education and renamed as Gyeongsang National University. For more than 60 years since its foundation, Gyeongsang National University has been educating talented students who have served not only for local community but also for national prosperity by leading them to be bigger asset in many places such as communities, industries, businesses and around the country and the world.

Gyeongsang National University has 1310 colleges, 10 graduate schools with 810 professors, 530 employees, 25,000 students, international educational institutes with 3 campuses, including the Kaiser, Chilam campus of Pearl, and the Marine Science University campus of Tongyeong .

Situated on the 2nd floor of main administration building, our Office is led by Dean, Vice Dean, and Director, consisting of External Cooperation Team, International Service Team, Public Relations Team, and Southeast Korea Global Network Center(International Support Team).

External Cooperation Team mainly deals with university development funds, GNU alumni association, educational donation, domestic agreements, and promotion work including producing university video, brochure, images, etc.

International Service Team primarily handles international exchange programs, joint academic programs with overseas institutions, management of international students, recruiting degree and non-degree students abroad, and many other activities to advance our stance on the world stage.

Public Relations Team works on issuing a monthly magazine, managing the electronic display at the front gate and student ambassadors, releasing media reports, handling newspaper and media advertisements, etc.

The Southeast Korea Global Network Center(International Support Team) newly established in 2014 by the Local University Advancement Project(Ministry of Education) plays a pivotal role in building up infrastructure to invite more international students, strengthening admission service, and setting up educational support and systemizing management system for international students.

The OIEC exclusively focuses on advancing GNU’s internationalization index, reputation and image through continuous cooperation with domestic as well as overseas institutions. In order to realize our vision, ‘The university with promising future and full of happiness! SMART GNU’ we are always open to everyone and willing to communicate with the rest of the world.

In addition, Gyeongsang National University is planning to strengthen the status of national universities, to cultivate creative talent ,to establish a continuous research support system, to conduct democratically communication, to happy welfare of members, to secure stable university funding 25 strategies, All members will do their best to achieve the goal. Gyeongsang University not only leads academic development in connection with Jinju Innovative City, Jinju Sacheon Aerospace National Industrial Complex, Gyeongnam West Area and Jeonnam East Area, but also focuses on improving the employment rate of students.

GNU has been positioning itself as an internationally recognized institution, consisting of 13 colleges and 10 graduate schools with 810 professors, 530 administrative staffs and some 25,000 students across three campuses – Gajwa and Chilam in Jinju and Tongyeong campus. As our mission is to create promising future and realize happiness of the world, we set up the following university slogan, ‘SMART GNU’ - Servant, Mission, Academy, Relation and Together: we serve with full of responsibility, implement our six missions, realize quality education, create happy campus through communication and welfare, and become engaged in university development altogether.

In addition, GNU will strive to accomplish 6 missions, 25 strategies and 101 action plans; and these 6 missions include 1) strengthening our status as a national flagship university 2) cultivating creative professionals 3) building sustainable research supports 4) implementing democratic administration with flexible communication 5) creating welfare that brings happiness to university members and 6) securing stable budget. Furthermore, GNU has been focusing on students’ employment and educational development in association with businesses and industrial complex in the west of South Gyeongsang Province and east of South Jeonnam Province including Jinju Inno City and Aerospace Industrial Complex in Jinju and Sacheon.
