In January 1966, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was officially founded and named as "Private Tung Fang Junior College of Industry and Arts." Mr.Tsai, Tian-Lai was invited to be the first Board Chairman, and Dr.Hsu, Kuo Hsiung, founder of the school, to be the first President. The school was then allowed to recruit five year program students for the spring semester.
In July 1969, the school was approved by the Ministry to be renamed as "Tung Fang Junior College of Industry".
In August 1972, to meet with the government policy of Reeducation for the Youth, the school was approved to recruit 2-year-Associate-Degree students in the evening.
In August 1989, two year junior college program was approved to be established in the day time.
In October 1990, the school was again approved by the Ministry of Education to change its name as "Tung Fang Junior College of Industry and Commerce."
In august 1996, continuing education for junior college students was approved to be established. At the same time the Extension Education Center was founded for promoting adult education.
In August 1999, the school was taken over by the Ministry of Education and an Administrative Committee formed to substitute the authority of the Board. Professor Hsu, Sheg-Hsiung of National Taiwan Technology University was invited to substitute for the President. The 10th Board of Directors was then authorized to stop its operation.
In June 2006, the Ministry of Education approved the school to establish Continuing Education Institute at the Kaohsiung school and started to recruit two-year university students with special classes allowed to be established in Taipei.
In August 2006, the Ministry of Education approved the school to establish the Interior Design department and the stylish Merchandise Design department.
In December 2006, the 13th public Board of Director invited the founding President of National Kaohsiung Institute of Restaurant and Hospitality.
In March 2007, Digital Academic Building completed.
In October 2007, the Ministry of Education (official document number 0960161402) approved the school to admit graduate students for the Graduate Institute of Cultural and Creative Design starting 2008 academic school year.
In October 2007, the completion and opening of Shikeo Fukuda Design Museum with a collection of more than one thousand authentic artworks presented by Master Fukuda.
In March 2008, the unveiling and opening of the school history museum.
In August 2008, the Ministry of Education appointed the school as the Resource Center for Campus Security Maintenance and National Defense Education in southern Taiwan.
In September 2008, the Ministry of Education (official document number 0970177781) approved the school to admit on-job graduate students for the Graduate Institute of Cultural and Creative Design starting 2009 academic school year.
In December 2008, the Ministry of Education (official document number 0970253021A) approved the school to admit 7-year program studednts for the Department of Arts and Crafts.
In January 2009, Dr. Fu-Ten Li, the 5th Board Chairman, was honorably appointed as the national policy advisor to the President of Taiwan.
