Applegarth Academy places the children at the heart of everything we do. We passionately believe that all decisions we make should have a positive impact upon children’s lives.Combining this with celebrating each individual enables Applegarth to provide the highest level of education for all children in our care.
In our school children work in a variety of ways: as a class, in groups, pairs or individually. The emphasis is always on active and meaningful involvement of children in their own learning. All children have regular opportunities to engage in musical and creative activities. In addition, the curriculum has a strong international focus. As such, our Academy has developed numerous links with partner schools and organisations abroad.
The Academy is very well resourced, enabling teachers to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum. We continue to invest in ICT so that our pupils can learn using the most up-to-date technologies. Within our curriculum we aim to provide for the academic, personal and social development of every child; encouraging them to work and think independently so that learning is irresistible.
We provide a range of targeted support in order to overcome barriers to learning. Additional support for children is achieved through appropriate assessment, setting personalised challenges and responding to individual needs. Staff work closely with parents to ensure the learning needs off all children are met.
Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safety, through provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advise how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons. Whether it be through choice of challenge of how they record, of participation in our numerous extra-curricular clubs and opportunities; pupils are given the freedom to make choices. During assemblies and circle time, we consider issues within the local and global context where groups or communities may not have the individual liberty or safety that we have in the UK.
Our vision at Applegarth academy is centred around our 6 learning powers, to ensure that all children develop the following lifelong skills throughout their time with us and are able to apply to these to their lifelong learning.
