The school is set in extensive grounds on the edge of Orpington in the London Borough of Bromley. As a large primary school we benefit from a great wealth and depth of talent across our pupils, parents, staff and governors. As a result we believe we can provide the very best opportunities for every single child in the school through our vision of Excellence for All.

We pride ourselves in providing a caring, happy and friendly environment which nurtures and supports all children so they have the very best opportunities to achieve their academic and all round potential. The highest priority is given to academic excellence through an engaging creative curriculum and high quality teaching – our trophy cabinet and other awards are testament to the many successes the children have enjoyed.

As a National Teaching School we seek to promote outstanding teaching and learning and work closely with a number of schools to provide high quality training as we strive for further improvement. Warren Road is committed to safeguarding all pupils, staff and members of the school community.

Our School Aims:

  • Inspiring creative minds and an enthusiasm for discovery
  • Instilling respect and an understanding of social and moral responsibility
  • Ensuring all can learn within a safe, stimulating and supportive environment
  • Equipping all with the skills to adapt to the future
  • Providing opportunity and challenge within and beyond the curriculum
  • Fostering spiritual and cultural awareness
  • Encouraging persistence, independence and high expectations
  • Promoting a strong sense of community where everyone is valued as an individual
  • Building the courage to embrace risk and continually question
  • Valuing, encouraging and celebrating achievement in all its forms
  • Appreciating the environment and committing to sustainability

At Warren Road we will aim to use the Premium to fund those activities/interventions which we consider to be the most effective in raising the achievement of disadvantaged pupils. Research on the impact of different strategies including work undertaken by the Sutton Trust and Ofsted is used to shape the school’s provision.

Effective strategies include:

  • High quality teaching and learning which addresses the needs of all children with effective differentiation to challenge all pupils.
  • 1 to 1 and small group support by experienced teaching/support staff focused on closing gaps in learning for children working towards achieving age related expectations as well as those aiming to exceed this.
  • High quality feedback to pupils to address misconceptions, reshape learning and establish clear next steps.
  • A focus on the development of personal and social skills.
  • Additional teaching and learning opportunities provided by Warren Road staff or external agencies.

We recognise that high quality class teaching has the biggest impact on pupils’ learning and their achievement. Class teachers are fully informed about the needs of the pupils in their class and differentiate learning accordingly and have the highest expectations of all pupils.

We aim to close any gaps in pupils’ learning as early as possible and for this reason we will direct support into Early Years and KS1 with a focus on pupils’ Communication and Language Development. We also however track the progress of all pupils and whenever any pupil falls behind we will do our utmost to close any gaps.

We recognise achievement in all its forms and do our best to ensure disadvantaged pupils benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum. We will provide opportunities to ensure all pupils can take part in any special activities including residential visits, clubs and activities – no disadvantaged pupils will be excluded from these activities.
