Welcome to Grangewood School, a member of the Eden Academy Trust. We are a primary school for children with a range of learning disabilities including those who are autistic and those who have physical or sensory needs.

Grangewood School pupils attend school at one of three specialist locations. Our main school site is at the newly built Grand Union Village school in Hayes, Northolt.

Some pupils with additional visual impairments attend Sunshine House Specialist Educational Setting in Northwood and some Year 1 and 2 pupils attend our Eden Pinkwell Satellite based at Pinkwell School in Hayes. We will use these three specialist locations whilst a brand-new school, with exceptional facilities, is built on our beautiful wooded site in Eastcote, Middlesex.

The focus at Grangewood School is on the ‘whole child’. We create teams of professionals to integrate education with therapy and provide a range of after school and holiday activities. In this way, we support parents and carers, whilst giving our pupils the best opportunities to learn and socialise.

Please browse our website to find out more about Grangewood School and feel free to contact us with questions, or to arrange a visit, you will be most welcome.

Grangewood School converted to become an academy school in October 2012. Since then it has worked in close collaboration with other special schools in the area. The Principal has responsibility for all of these schools. The Head of School at Grangewood works very closely with the Principal and other academy leaders. A team of therapists is employed directly by the academy to work with pupils at this school on a daily basis.

At Grangewood School we work in a fun, creative way to ensure that each child develops a love for learning. We know our children very well and plan their learning individually, drawing on their strengths, skills and interests, emotionally, physically and cognitively.

Each pathway is tailored to appropriately meet the learning needs of each pupil within the school, providing a personalised approach for each pupil. Communication bands are at the core of all practice in the school.

We provide key opportunities for pupils to experience, develop and consolidate a range of skills and knowledge that they may use to develop their independence and enhance their lives. At the same time, it supports the development of character and well-being to ensure they thrive in the future.

The curriculum must therefore be flexible enough to meet the different needs of every individual in an ever changing school population, whilst laying the key foundations for the next stage of their lives.

We believe that all the experiences that a pupil encounters, from their arrival at school to the time they leave each day, present teaching and learning opportunities.

The curriculum at Grangewood School is therefore not just classroom-bound, but is the foundation of all that we do to provide capitalising upon these learning opportunities and making them accessible, manageable and of worth for each pupil. It is reflected in the school environment, the conduct and values of all staff and the carefully-planned and sensitive support we provide.

Learning takes place all over the school site and in the local community, using classrooms as a secure base for pupils, traditional teacher-led sessions and social group-work. Further opportunities are found in the routines of transition times, break-times and times of self-care.
