Northwood College for Girls is a magical place. We work extremely hard to consistently provide a centre of excellence, where each individual lesson and extra-curricular activity is designed to ultimately craft, inspire and develop the optimum future for our girls.
Having outperformed 95% of all UK schools with an outstanding set of ‘value-added’ figures for our core subject GCSEs this year, Northwood College for Girls is an academically strong school.
'Value-added' results demonstrate the difference between the examination grades that a child achieves to the examination grades that she was predicted to achieve when assessed in Year 7. If the student’s actual grade exceeds her predicted grade, that difference represents the improvement that she has made during her school years, ie the 'value-added'.
Our girls consistently add one, two or even three grades to their predicted grades - a true testament to the exceptionally high standard of a Northwood College for Girls' education and the effectiveness of our forward-thinking teaching techniques and approach.
We are confident that each and every one of our girls will thrive academically at Northwood College for Girls, but to truly excel in this fast changing world young people need so much more than examination results.
As a result of our unique Thinking Skills programme, we are confident that our girls enter the big wide world prepared and equipped with a wide range of life skills. Designed to enable each girl to develop independent and creative thinking, our robust programme incorporates emotional resilience initiatives to encourage the girls out of their comfort zone and provide them with the tools and techniques to face any potential challenge with both confidence and self-assertiveness.
Another factor that differentiates our school from other local schools is that we are a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust. With an outstanding track record in educational innovation and academic excellence, the GDST is the UK’s largest Education Charity and ensures that its 24 schools and two academies are equipped with the finest teachers and facilities.
Being a member of the GDST guarantees that our teachers benefit from the most up to date educational resources, training and support network; and that our girls have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of scholarships, competitions, awards and prizes, as well as, benefit from a spectrum of GDST learning initiatives, training, seminars and workshops.
At GCSE and A Level, GDST pupils outperform not just the general population of schools, but specifically those from the rest of the independent school sector and in recent years almost 80% of GDST students going on to university did so at Russell Group universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.
We were delighted to achieve 'Excellent in every category' in our last Education Inspection report and a 5 star review rating from schoolguide.co.uk who spent a day with us earlier this year.
In always putting our girls first, we share the values and vision of our parents and we believe that a strong school/parent partnership is vitally important. From family educational workshops to the promise that each phone call will be treated with the importance it deserves; our open door policy and the fact that our parents can express freely with their daughter’s educators and will always be listened to – these important factors combine to make Northwood College for Girls’ families confident that they are an important part of our team.
Finally, school is a platform for discovery, learning and striving for success but it should also provide the opportunity for the girls to enjoy their precious childhood years and secure genuine friends for life.
To truly flourish we believe that our girls should feel happy, secure and valued each and every day at school - and our excellent pastoral care rests on this premise.
