Welcome to Woodford Green Preparatory; our happy, vibrant and thriving school. We encourage pupils to strive to do their very best through a broad range of experiences that help them achieve great academic success. Pupils learn best when they are happy and feel secure. Our dedicated staff work hard to ensure that pupils are supported through excellent pastoral care. Our curriculum is broad and exciting, designed to stimulate a life-long love of learning. Pupils gain independence, resourcefulness and are provided with support and challenge. This is reflected in our ISI Inspection Report which highlights the many areas of excellence, which we continually strive to achieve.

Let Each Flame Burn Brighter. To be known as a school where every pupil is nurtured, encouraged to be curious and achieves their very best. The Woodford Green Preparatory School Values are the key elements that we value highly and place particular emphasis on. They are formed with input from the pupils, parents, staff and governors. They are written in such a way that they are accessible to all of our pupils.

Woodford Green Early Years is an exciting place for children to start their education. Pupils are happy and extremely enthusiastic about learning. We aim to inspire confident learners through a culture of high expectations that continuously celebrates the social, academic and emotional successes of all pupils. The EYFS consists of Foundation 1 (Nursery) and Foundation 2 (Reception). We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is delivered through a balance of child-initiated and teacher-led activities. Within the curriculum there are 3 Prime areas and 4 specific areas.

Our curriculum aims to help develop the children become lifelong learners, who can work independently and solve problems. We encourage a ‘growth mindset’ where pupils learn the skills of hard work, taking risks, being resilient, learning from failure, as well as making sure that they do the very best they can. The process of learning is equally important as to what they learn, as well as being broad and balanced.

Our curriculum sits hand in hand with tracking each pupil’s academic progress and is designed to set them up for moving into selective senior school entry. Working from the endpoint and then back through the year groups, each year of learning is carefully built upon the last. The end result is that our pupils receive a very high number of offers from selective senior schools and are very well prepared for enjoying their future studies.

We study all the National Curriculum subjects. French is taught from Year 2 onwards, with Spanish for our Year 6 pupils. Pupils are taught many of the subjects by their form teacher which allows for cross-curricular linkage, with additional subject specialist teachers for music, art, languages and sport. As a truly independent school we are able to choose the very best aspects of the National Curriculum and design learning opportunities to reflect carefully balanced and in-depth WGPS approach. This, in turn, provides support and challenge for all our pupils. There are also a large number of extra-curricular opportunities which allow additional pathways for pupils to explore a width of experiences.
