Welcome to St Joseph’s Primary School. To ensure that the Gospel values are reflected in all aspects of the school’s life, in the classroom and playground and in the relations between the pupils, the school staff.
To ensure that all pupils are given equal opportunity to achieve their full potential, spiritually, academically and socially. To encourage pupils to develop self-discipline, self-respect and self-confidence.
To provide learning experiences which will recognise the gifts of each individual and fulfill each pupil’s entitlement to the National Curriculum.
At St. Joseph’s school, we aim to grow and learn together within a loving and caring environment which reflects the Gospel values. We encourage all our children to reach their full potential in all aspects of their education.
Any attempt to continue to raise standards in our school must be focused on the classroom. Continued and sustained improvement is dependent upon sustaining the high quality of teaching and learning that is taking place on a daily basis.
Across our school the expectation is that all pupils are provided with high quality learning experiences that lead to consistently high levels of pupil achievement.
We aim to provide a high quality mathematics curriculum, which allows the children to develop the skills they require for everyday life. Maths teaching enables pupils to reason mathematically and to build an appreciation of the power of mathematics, as well as to develop a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. We follow The New National Curriculum Mathematics programme of study. The programmes of study are organised into distinct domains, within each year group. There are clear sets of objectives for Years 1 to 6.
At St Joseph’s we aim to equip pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word, and to develop their love of reading, by providing children with rich and varied learning experiences. We believe that a high-quality education in English enables pupils to speak and write fluently so they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others accurately and expressively.
Catherine McAuley Founded of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland in 1831. She was requested to set up a convent here in Bermondsey by Bishop Griffiths at the request of Reverend Peter Butler in 1838 to help the sick poor and to undertake the education of the children of the area.
The continuing success of the school has led to many achievements; St Joseph’s has obtained Beacon status and currently highlighted on the Ofsted web site as a ‘particularly successful school.’ In addition, the school has achieved ‘Healthy Eating Status’.
Finally, to bring this early 20th century building into the 21st century extensive building work is taking place. This will ensure we can not only comfortably accommodate our pupils but allows us to provide resources and space for the broad, balanced, exciting, technologically based Curriculum.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
This school is very good not only for the outstanding academic results of their children, but most important for the staff that runs the school, from the Headteacher, teachers, and everybody that is part of this exemplary school that put not only their part but the extra mile need it to provide real example to the pupils. It is a privilege to have my children as part of this family where faith, values, knowledge and discipline are the pillars that drive the school.

Love this little school to bits. The atmosphere when you walk in is amazing. You can basically get a customised education plan for your child. So excited about the opportunities ahead. I would recommend for everyone to just go and have a look around at the school.
