Leamington is a two form entry school. The nursery is able to accommodate up to 104 children. The reception classes and the nursery are known as the Foundation stage of the national curriculum. Years 1 and 2 are key Stage 1 and years 3 to 6 are key stage 2.

While some children thrive in the whole class environment, others enjoy working in smaller groups and in pairs. They are glad of the security smaller numbers bring. As well as a full quota of qualified teachers, Leamington provides invaluable help to children who progress better with a more individualised approach.

We at Leamington Community Primary School will work to provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment in which every child is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential through the development of a love of learning and a desire to expand their knowledge. We plan to do this by:

  • To promote effective leaning for all our children through high quality teaching
  • To provide a safe, secure, stimulating and welcoming environment where everyone is valued
  • To ensure that our children achieve their full potential and work towards high standards
  • To promote good behaviour through high standards of care and mutual respect
  • To foster a supportive partnership between home, school and our neighbourhood

Here at Leamington, we value the whole child. We feel that although offering a high qualtiy education is of key importance, we also want to promote 5 core values to every child. The 5 values are:

  • Respect
  • Courage
  • Honesty
  • Friendship
  • Determination

At Leamington Community Primary School, we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and we teach tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning all of this, are a range of curriculum topics which have strong links to Britain, both past and present. Our school promotes and believes in the British characteristics of Tolerance, Respect, Fair Play and Good Community Spirit. Leamington’s Geography curriculum teaches our pupils that Britain is an island nation.

The school celebrates world events such as the Winter Olympics, Olympic and Para-Olympic games, the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games etc. Through our work with the Comenius Project each of our classes have learnt about our European partner’s geography, history and culture. The children are taught how to cook a couple of traditional dishes in their Food Technology lessons. Within History, the pupils study Ancient Civilisations, they learn about Democracy, the school follows democratic procedure annually when voting for school councillors and playground mentors.

The children at Leamington are actively encouraged to be aware of what is happening within our country and worldwide. They work hard to understand their role in our community and can discuss current affairs confidently whilst developing a social conscience. The school undertakes assemblies which uphold traditional values of empathy, respect and tolerance. These are also taught within formal PSHE and RE lessons and on an informal nature throughout the school days.

At Leamington Primary we aim to ensure our children have a positive impact on their society. We are developing our children to be the next citizens of a local, national and global society.

Our reading scheme at Leamington contains a wide variety of different books from different publishers. The books are colour coded at Foundation Level up to Diamond level which is suitable for upper Key Stage 2 or advanced readers. The attached book banding sheets will give you an indication of where your child is in this progression. The bands are used as an approximate estimate given the range of material we use in the school.

Everyone at Leamington is working towards the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark. This is an exciting project to promote positive attitudes to maths not just in our school but as an essential life skill. We will be focusing on new and exciting ways to help encourage children to make links and use maths in their everyday lives.

We are delighted to inform you that Leamington Community Primary School has been awarded the British Council International School Award, which recognises schools which have excelled in the area of international learning. We wanted to share the school’s success with you and explain what it means for pupils, teachers and the school as a whole.
