South Morningside PS is a diverse, friendly and inclusive environment where staff, learners and their families work together to create a positive learning environment. We have a very long standing reputation as an amazing school. At the heart of everything we do is the belief that achievement for all learners is as important as attainment and we provide our pupils with a rich and balanced curriculum across all areas in exciting real life contexts including Forest Schools and Community outreach.
We are a Gold Rights Respecting School and believe that every child has a right to learn in a safe, secure and happy environment. Every learner also has the right to have their voice heard and this is evident in the variety of learner voice groups running across the school.
This session we have specialist teachers in PE, Drama, Music and Technology/ Science. We also have visiting String and Woodwind instructors. Specialist teachers, other than instrumental tutors, are largely funded as part of the reduction in class contact arrangements within the Teachers‘ National Agreement for P3-P7 classes.
Support Staff comprises of a Service Support Officer (Janitor), A Caretaker/ cleaner for nursery, a School Administrator, a full-time Clerical Assistant and a team of Pupil Support Assistants who work a variety of full and part-time timetables.
An After School Care Club, with a Board of Trustees comprising parents, is housed within the Main Building. They run a Breakfast Club, an After School Club and a Holiday Club.
The school benefits from a very active and supportive Parent Council. The Parent Council has developed a set of sub committees. In the past they have been involved in issues such as fund raising, accomodation issues and the school travel plan. There is a continued focus on development of the school grounds for play and learning, temporarily delayed due to necessary stone work and building repairs. Parents raised funds have been put aside and specifically allocated to this development.
The local High School is Boroughmuir. The Boroughmuir cluster schools has developed a close and cohesive identity and have an excellent programme of transition projects in place.
Our school facilities are located across three sites; our main school building, our annexe at Cluny Centre and our nursery at Fairmilehead Church.
